Hello,
I've been doing as much reading as I can before purchasing, and I think I've found a good stone for a good price. The specs are (GIA certified):
Color: F
Clarity: SI2
Cut: Very good
Size: 1.00
Table: 61%
Depth: 61.1%
Measurment: 6.37x6.42
Girdle: Medium-thick
Crown angle: 34 degrees
Pavilion angle: 41 degrees

The stone is eye clean, it does have some small inclusions that can be seen on the edge of the table with a loupe.

The price is $5k flat. I see from the HCA it is in the "very good" range (2.5) and "Worth buying if the price is right". My question is, is this price right?

Thanks in advance for any advice. I've been pulling what little hair I have left out for weeks now.

Who's the seller? Do they have a good return policy? Do you have a link to the cert? What type of inclusions are present on the edge of the table and do the break the surface? Any other durability concerns? Overall, the price seems pretty comparable, but I don't like the cut. Any pics, ASET, or IS?

Not bad for 5K. Picture? Checked for haziness?

The seller is on Jeweler's Row in Chicago, no returns. No I do not have a picture (I've asked the jeweler for one now). I have a scan of half the certificate that I uploaded. The inclusions do not break the surface as far as I can tell. No haziness either, at least from what I could see, though I've only been looking at diamonds for a month.

Can't get a professional photo, sorry.

I don't think that I'd buy it if he won't provide pics and there are no returns. 99.9% of diamonds look amazing in jewelry store lighting, but that doesn't reflect everyday lighting situations. Unfortunately, it's very difficult to evaluate a diamond simply by looking at it in the store - even with a GIA cert. Cut grades are a range and very good is in a range that doesn't reach the top tier. That's not to say that it will be ugly, but it could be. It would be much easier to evaluate if you could get pics/videos or IS/ASET.

Edit: GIA bases their cut grades on real world research done to determine what the average person finds appealing, PSers don't usually approve of anything less than ideal/excellent cut. Still, most people wouldn't know what you were talking about if you mentioned cut grades for GIA. My point is to choose what YOU find appealing. Just make sure you see it in a variety of lighting conditions and preferably have a good return policy.

It's not that he's unwilling, more unable. I've gotten plenty of pics of other diamonds from him, but he's already received this one and doesn't have the equipment for a professional pic. He did take a cell phone shot, attached here, but I don't think there's much to be gained from that.

What about this for $5200? Has a 1.4 HCA score, dealer says eye-clean but haven't seen it for myself yet.

Thanks

It depends, they are two different proportions and you might like one set of proportions better. The second one is starting to look a little small for its weight, though.

How about this for 5250? HCA score of 3.8. The color is a bit lower than I'd like, but the stone looks really good.

They don't offer idealscope images? Cause 2.5 with a good idealscope is fine. Idealscope trumps everything.
