Dear PS Friends,

Been trying to make good decisions on next pieces to add to my collection. It made me think about pieces that I was sure I wanted at one point, and never purchased and now I am glad I didn’t. If this has ever happened to you, can you share the piece and why you ended up being glad you didn’t buy it? If you have a pic, that would be great.

For me it was a Single Stone French cut diamond and ruby band. It’s called Julia. It was so pricey that I couldn’t justify it at the time, which was about 5-6 years ago. I put it off and now I see that I would not wear it much at all. I’m not a huge right hand ring person and I would not want to wear it with MK on my left hand. It would just sit in the jewelry box. Saved over $6K. I just looked it up. I could have sworn it was more expensive before.B276EF44-06FB-4D28-855B-4DE8DA5B43B8.png

Oh I’ve definitely thought I needed things that I really didn’t. The difference is that I purchased them.

The DBTY necklace: turns out it’s not for me. It flips and I’m just much more into antique cuts and styles. I got this for a steal and sold it at cost.

Dormeuse earrings: I have three lobe piercings and these don’t really go with the look. If I take out the other piercings and wear these alone, it’s too subtle for my tastes. I would’ve kept these anyway except that one stone looked like frozen spit, and that bothered me most of all.

Maybe I’m a glutton for punishment, but I am going to give a variation of the dormeuse a try with the first one the left. I think that this will work because it’s more substantial than the classic dormeuse.

Hmmm... I don't have many pictures but anything too big I tend not to end up wearing ie. big dangly earrings, chunky necklaces etc.... I am fairly petite so just feel swamped by it. o_O

For example:
Original freshwater strand - rarely worn due to size & weight. Gorgeous pastel colours though!

Lighter cream Akoya graduated strand - worn frequently.

Ditto this natural rock crystal necklace - so heavy!

Lightweight vintage Mazer rinestone necklace:

Similar to @JPie I bought them.

Mine will sound silly, but it was setting an omc into a diamond solitaire bezel necklace. I don't wear it. It's beautiful, but if I wear a necklace it's usually my Marla Aaron locks. I should have kept the stone to get a matching and do a pair of earrings.

intetesting as i have 3 piercings and i don't know how to do my eras when it comes to.fine jewleey
yours are such pretty earings

My larger mistake, which I bought, was a modern opal ring.

I think it looks terrible on me and I have tried to sell it, but it's had no takers. I don't think I'm an opal person. At least not a crystal opal. It doesn't look good on me. IMG_20190530_075708627.jpg

VCA Perlee Clover bracelet :mrgreen2:

And I'm still not completely sure...
Are y'all tired of me dithering over that thing yet?

It would take me far too long and bum me out way too much to go through the list of regrets. I think I covered all the diamond ring ones in the other on-going thread! As for other jewelry, OMG, so many things I should not have purchased, and there are things I passed on that to this day I am kicking myself why didn't I purchase!!!
Jewelry is both my passion and my nemesis. It is a very dysfunctional relationship!!!

A large blue sapphire ring and Nancy Pelosi's multicolored South sea pearl strand have been on my wish list for about 10 years.

I finally admitted to myself this year that I'm not a RHR person at all. The most I can wear is a band but definitely not a large colored stone and those particular pearls are much too formal for most workplaces which seem to be moving towards athleisure pijamas.

I'm happy that I never pulled the trigger on what would have been expensive pieces sitting in the safe.

A large eternity ring. I drool over them when I see them, but I test drove a cz one and it made me bonkers!

I love the size/setting of that ring but agree certain shades of opal can be hard to pull off. I also struggle with orangey crystal/welo opals on my very pale fair skin. Perhaps remove the opal and just re-use the gorgeous setting? :wavey:

such a shame
you know its a beautiful green
could you reprurpose it into.a brooch ?
would you wear a brooch ?
what about a pendant but set going the other way ?
it wouldn't cost so much to.convert it into a pendant

Bought a diamond eternity ring (.10 diamonds all the way around) way way too uncomfortable for my lifestyle. Listed it on LT, got offers a fraction of what I paid for it. One day I'm going to rip out the diamonds and recycle them into a halo around a colour stone so it wasn't a complete waste of money.

Bought a diamonds by the yard bracelet, it looked so tiny on my wrist it was like why did I buy this again, sold on LT for just under what I paid for it.

Ditto a .30 carat bezel set pendant. Also I think too dainty or small sold on LT.

And that's without listing the numerous projects that I bought and never got around to doing...... and pearls I never wear and a never ending list of gemstones that need setting....

Yes I think when I buy things that fail, that I don't like, or things I don't wear what it actually does is it makes me more aware of what I do like and want, so from that POV even though no doubt many of us on here spend way more than we should working through a process of discovering what we like it's still helpful.

Even now, sometimes what I think will look really great actually looks meeah on me IRL and things I'm not sure about sometimes look amazing....

I've thought about converting to a pendant. But, I honestly don't wear them really.

I have also thought about making it into a cuff bracelet of some type.

I love @yssie diamond hair pin she did. I don't know the metals of the clip part though. I have thought about using the diamond and opal surround and making it a hair pin. Would you mind sharing the metal part you used on the clip and if you are okay with an inspired piece? I don't even know who I could get to do that either if I just want a conversion...Maybe David Klass?

I have thought about it. I have looked for loose stones too. Maybe I will start a thread in the colored stone section. Problem is that it is a big opal...

Opals in the hair sounds divine :kiss2:

The tines and the securing circle ring are both 14k YG. You could do whatever you like for the head of course, but the tines and securing ring need to be made of a metal that is not prone to inelastic deformation - ie. 14k YG, 14k/18k RG, Nickel/WG, not platinum, palladium, or cast Palladium/WG...

In terms of vendor - I've had wonderful experiences with CvB and highly recommend reaching out! ::) She's the one who determined what this project would require - metal specifics, tine attachment style, tine finish. I personally do not agree with Klass' professional model and his tendency to making design, aesthetic, and functionality the customer's responsibility, and therefore cannot recommend him. I think really any shop that does both repairs and custom work could work with you on something like this though!

Cartier Love bracelet - I was thiiiis close to getting one then chickened out at the last minute because part of me knew that a bracelet I couldn't easily remove would not work with my lifestyle.

Cartier Trinity ring - again, got very close to pulling the trigger but ultimately couldn't justify the price.

Victorian rose cut diamond navette ring - bought an antique one from a lovely Etsy seller but decided it wasn't quite sparkly enough and ended up returning it.

I made the mistake with the Love cuff. I bought it, love it, but seldom wear it. My daughter loves it, so maybe she will wear it someday. To my huge surprise, VCA fits my lifestyle much more. Who woulda thunk?

Have you considered having it reset N-S instead of E-W? If the longer side is parallel with your finger, it might solve your problem :twirl:

I bought a gorgeous floral eternity ring from BN before I finally caved on an ACA that I should have bought in the first place. I thought it would scratch my diamond itch but it didn’t. My attempt to save money cost me $7000 CAD. I love the ring but haven’t worn it once since I got the MRB that I always wanted.

@yssie thanks! I am going to be talking to Caysie about earrings, so I mentioned this to her. If she could put a carved halo around my diamond halo that could be pretty. I wear my hair up almost daily so it would actually be useful.

I wished for a bangle for too long... - took a few for a drive since January & kept none. I remain with the surprising conclusion that I would rather have a showy cuff to wear once in a blue moon, than any reasobale day-wear.

that's what i thought but i didn't know how to say it :twirl:

a hair clip sounds fabulous!!!
yssie's clip is divine and your opal is too lovelly to be a mistake
its such a beautiful colour

you know i initally could only think of one thing and its nowhere near as expensive as some of your's but it is all relative and the money would have been better just being spent at the jewler down the mall where i could try things on
apart from two fabulous bargins my internet purchases have been crap -( i could never buy unset stones like you ladies do) and I
have a pile of 'projects' as a result
but my biggest disappointment would have been alot worse as i wanted this braclete so ooooo bad. it cost 5K and thank goodness i was in Auckland for work and got to actually try it on because it was too small and i just dont mean about it fitting my wrist
Before i had seen it had been thinking about experimenting with the silver version and buying the ring and having a local jewler use the flowers off the ring to extend the bracelet
i found the matching preloved silver ring on trade-me (NZ ebay) but the young man lost it on the way to the post office (it was a sign)
anyway i had already ordered the earings to match and a ring from the same collection
major disappointment
it was just too delicate (pitifully small)
i think i leaent not to buy young and trendy off the internet
its karen Walker so it was not cheap and i felt disapointed for a long time and i surpose i learnt fashion designers make everything too small !
it looked sooooo beautiful on the internet
im going to give the ring to my friend's 14 year.old granddaughter who has just fallen in love with gardening
Untitled-2-1.jpg 20190601_141211.jpg
its hard to see but the roses on the bracette are only as big as one tiny rose on the ring.
thank goodness i didn't buy the silver braclette either.
i might start wearing the earings because one can actually see they are roses
