.90 under $3000 Possible?

Exactly what @msop04 said, definitely not worth it to get it in platinum. Also, there are many platinum lovers here, but platinum does patina so for simple solitaire settings, I actually prefer white gold as it stays shiny for longer, at least in my experience. I have had white gold rings for years without the need to rhodium replate, so I wouldn't necessarily think of that as a concern.

I actually prefer this version even better: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/e...assic-style-half-round-18k-white-gold-5540w18

I also had this as my temp setting... it's VERY basic, so I'd never pay for platinum for that particular setting. I'd get the one one SimoneDi posted above (but in 14K white gold, instead of 18K).

there isn't an option for 14k wg on that one. Also why do you suggest 14 over 18?

I would actually stick to 18kt white. BGD can make it in 14kt for $75 less, I believe. Their white gold is pretty and heavy. I think that msop04 considers that 14kt WG is stronger and remains whiter for longer due to being mixed with less gold which is naturally yellow, but for this particular setting I would go with the 18kt WG, it is heavier and more luxurious in my view.

You can ask for 14K. 18K will look very dingy when the rhodium plating starts to wear off... 14K will not show as badly, so less upkeep and less expensive.

Does BG use a whiter alloy like X1? If so, then I would definitely go with 18K for the extra heft. I had a terrible time with my 18K WG halo setting. It always looked dingy where the rhodium would wear.

Hm.. I am not 100%, but I prefer their 18kt vs the 14kt, plus for the price difference I prefer more gold. I am sure it can be inquired. I found the 18kt to be a darker shade of gray vs the 14kt which was lighter and I prefer the heft of the 18kt compared to the 14kt. Not always though! Men bands - 14kt all the way:D

I wanted more gold as well, which is why I got 18K for my last setting. I like the thought of more gold, but the upkeep wasn't worth it to me. It looked bad... a lot of the time. :(

Oh boo! Did it get creamy or scratched? Who made it?

No scratching, but it looked very dingy on the palm side of my hand as the rhodium would wear off... I had to have it replated so much that my modified knife edge shank was eventually rounded. :( It's a great setting by Christopher Designs -- very well made and beautiful. I loved it... still do! I just wish I'd gone with 14K or forked over the extra cash for platinum. #youliveyoulearn

If his budget is that tight I would stick to white gold too... I have plenty of white gold items and don't mind the colour at all.

Hope he gets that BGD stone- I certainly would've gotten it for my brother if I hadn't already bought a smaller (doh) H VS1!! It's perfect for this budget range!

The only thing is, that 10% off promo ends soon. I'm not sure if BGD are still going to honour it if you purchase after it's finished...

Maybe clarify that with BGD and tell them you want pics but want to make sure you still can get the 10% off. Otherwise it's going to be out of budget!!

Agreed on all. I wouldn't miss out on the sale... I'd also ask if BG uses/would use X1 or a similar alloy so that the OP can get the 18K...

I did misunderstand the sale .... I thought it would be 10% off of the wire price but it is 10% off of the regular price IF you do wire and 7% off with credit card

7% is still a good deal :)

7% + wire discount off is as good a deal as you'll ever get off a BGD stone! Sometimes they have a small dollar value off settings for Black Friday as well, but this isn't usually on ring settings. It tends to be for earrings or pendants.

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all of your help! The person I was helping has decided to save a bit more so I took it off hold. I almost want to buy it though and hold it for him because the price is so good LOL
I did buy a pair of of J color with Med Blue Fl earrings for myself  I have never seen this color IRL so I am pretty excited

@jewels2 congratulations on your studs! I think that the Js with medium flouro will be amazing! Perhaps, once your friend sees them, he will no longer be afraid of I/J colors :) Please share the details of the studs! I also think that it is smart of the person you were helping to hold off on this purchase for a little bit and purchase what he really wants once he saves up enough for it.

Oooh, one of the side effects of helping others here :) please do come back and show us your new studs!! Congrats!

Update!

I received the unset J's today They truly are beautiful and I am surprised by how unyellow they look lol
Here are some pics next to my current E/F

Glad you love them -- but I can't see any pics... :(

I am not keeping them though :(
They are definitely better cut than my current set but if I am going to get new ones I think I would like to get a bit bigger more noticeable size difference

This photo shows a bit more color but IRL it is not very noticeable and if they were set and not next to E/F ( I have one of each and not sure which one I photographed lol) I would not notice it
