I would second Good Old Gold for cushions.

Some of the nicest stones out there, great service, and located in NYC.

For Halo I like the Ritani (brand) French cut but I am sure GOG or ERD or even James Allen (also in NY ) would have beautiful settings

Good old gold is not in NYC - it is on Long Island.

I would recommend ERD for your budget, IDJ, and GOG. ERD and IDJ are around the corner from each other.

Hi Rockpaper- can I say scissors

There's no "ideal" when it comes to cushion diamonds.
Any ranges expressed with be a person's taste.

There's a lot of different styles of cushions- and some do have more typical feature. For example antique style stones generally have smaller tables.
But you'll need to look at different types of stones to see what appeals most to you.
