Hi all! My husband is gifting me diamond studs for my birthday and I would love some help from the PS community! This is our first big diamond purchase other than my engagement ring. I have roughly $6,000 for my budget and I am wondering what specs to look for for studs and any recommended dealers. What ctw can I expect for this price? Also curious, if I could increase my budget to $8,000 what would be realistic in that price range? I am not opposed to pre-owned diamonds. I also love OECs (I have an OEC as my center stone in my engagement ring). Thanks for your help!

What are the specs on your ER, just for perspective?

I would go for 1.80 ctw studs. You will Definitely be able to get J vs 2 in that price range.

Are you looking for GIA certified stones? In addition to online have you checked with any local reputable jewelers in your area? With the current state of affairs local jewelers may be willing to negotiate to get product moving.

I use BN for all my studs. J is my sweet spot and I never go lower than VS because I lack patience to look for eyeclean SI stones.

I would definitely prefer GIA certified for peace of mind since I won't be seeing in person. I haven't checked locally, I'm really not sure about reputable jewelers in my area. I live in a metro area though so I'm sure there are some, I just don't know how to tell.

I would go with Whiteflash as they have a wonderful upgrade policy. Or, contact Yekutiel at ID Jewelry as he's known to work a little magic with a budget! I purchased my studs from him abut 4 years ago and they're beautiful.

I emailed IDJ the other day! Just waiting to hear back. I will look into Whiteflash as well. Thanks for your help!

I got the GIA report numbers for the pair on ETSY but I don't think they are good stones :(2

They are the same mm measurement but one is .81 ct and one is .68 ct. Seems like the should be closer in weight or one must be poorly cut.

Oooh that’s a bummer. I’ll keep my eyes peeled for you. I’m always browsing.

Ivy & Rose has some pairs btw. They’re usually cheaper so I always check their selection out. Their website is cheaper than their eBay page now & they’re very nice to work with.

I heard back from Yekutiel with IDJ and he sent info on a pair of 1.5ctw for $4600 (I've readjusted by budget to $5k). Thoughts on theses? I second ivy and rose - they seem to have a lot of options especially if you like OEC and prices are fair!

I’m not a diamond expert so I don’t know about the ones from IDJ.

@lko700 did you decide if you want OEC or H&A cut?

Also did you see this listing from @vinjewels for 1.64 tcw OEC studs (H/I VS2) ?
I think they might be still available

If you’re more interested in OEC I would also try reaching out to Adam from old world diamonds

I'm now leaning towards a MRB since they have better mm size for the same carat weight. And for earrings no one will be looking too close.

That's what I was thinking too! I replied back to ask if there were any options lower on the clarity scale. I would be fine down to SI1 as long as they are eye clean
