Recently looking into pre-owned Cartier (but nothing going back that far) I found this helpful article by Lang on the different Cartier makers’ marks. All I can conclude is that it looks like they’ve had many marks that could identify the brand, even back before the 1960s. So the fact that the seller says only 18k is inscribed inside and NOT Cartier makes me wonder if it's an authentic item...
