Someone is selling a Cartier rolling ring marked 18k on the inside. She says it was purchased in the 60s in a Cartier store in New York. She believes Cartier did not inscribe their name in the rings at that time. No other info is available.

Could this be authentic or should I pass?

Recently looking into pre-owned Cartier (but nothing going back that far) I found this helpful article by Lang on the different Cartier makers’ marks. All I can conclude is that it looks like they’ve had many marks that could identify the brand, even back before the 1960s. Here’s an example of one from the same era, described as hallmarked. https://www.sophiejanejewels.com/pr...bed-design-18k-yellow-gold-rolling-bands-sz-4
Here is another: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1479078502/

Thanks!! That's what I read up on too!
So the fact that the seller says only 18k is inscribed inside and NOT Cartier makes me wonder if it's an authentic item...

Yeah, I can’t say! I think I found the listing you are looking at, and I think the price is reasonable just for the piece regardless of brand. Depends on how “sure” you want to be!
