6 stone ring, opinions?

I just aquired this preloved ring. See the closeups. Does it seem like there are additional prongs along the borders of the ring? Or is that just the style? Not sure if there are small missing stones or not?
It doesn’t bother me either way, but I was about to have it sized. If there are missing stones I may just set this aside as a project ring as it was pretty inexpensive.

Adding if this is how it is supposed to look, is it beyond Gaudy for me to pair it with my 5 stone ring? Part of me feels it’s not a bit much. But the other part really digs it lol

I think it's how the ring was designed. Unusual to have 6 stones also, it's lovely.
