Thanks for posting your ring LibbyLa!!! I love your RG ring.

LibbyLa and Shimmer: yes, I can imagine that a lower coloured stone looks whiter in RG as there is less contrast compared to when it's set in white metal... You are absolutely right about asking the jeweler for advice Shimmer. Thanks!!!

I know what you mean ... I felt exactly the same!! Because your stone is warm, I really do think VC is the way to go. I'd speak to him and see what he can arrange regarding insurance, transit, delivery arrangements for your stone.

:) :D

Update!!!! Based on CaratLover's advice I decided to take the plunge...
Today I have signed the work order from Victor Canera!!! He will make a gorgeous Sophia ring for me. I am so excited!!!

Wow, that will be amazing!!! Can't wait to see it!

Re: 5.3 OEC in French tapered cut design: platinum or rose g

Ooooooo so exciting!!! He's the best of the best and I've no doubt it will be perfect. I'm jealous already!

Re: 5.3 OEC in French tapered cut design: platinum or rose g

Probably my favorite (though YG and RG keep calling me) - love the Sophia and had settled on that - until I thought RG - and back to Sophia. Ahhhh. Can't wait to see it! How long will it take?

Re: 5.3 OEC in French tapered cut design: platinum or rose g

Another person that has been wanting a Sophia and a large OEC, can't wait to see it, does your diamond have a thin girdle or a normal girdle, I have been discussing that setting and thin girdles with Victor....

Re: 5.3 OEC in French tapered cut design: platinum or rose g

In my opinion if you wanted to play up the aspect of your diamond being 'moody' and able to go from white to showing more color I feel like using a white metal would give your stone more of a blank slate. As beautiful as rose gold is I think that it might cause the stone to always tend towards being more tinted especially in a bezel setting. Another thought about rose gold is that it might play nicer with a stone with browner tendencies vs yellow undertones. Unplated WG would be a nice metal to use as well just because I believe it would not contrast with your stone as much as platinum or rhodium plated WG but would still allow a cleaner slate for your stone than RG. Just MHO though :)

Re: 5.3 OEC in French tapered cut design: platinum or rose g

Thanks for your reactions Lexarose, Arkieb, Blingymo, Rosebloom and Diamondseeker! I am so excited!!! I hope to have the ring on my hand at the beginning of September.

Blingymo: I discussed the option of RG, but Victor recommends using Platinum and I decided to go with that. I have looked at even more yummy pictures of PSers with the tapered french cut ring and I think the Platinum looks great with lower coloured stones. I can so relate with having to make a decision between RG va WG or platinum. Lol
Hope you will be able to make your decision soon!!!

Lexarose: thanks for confirming my decision!!! And I think you are right that RG would totally complement a stone with brownish hues..

I cannot thank you enough Caratlover! It was you who convinced me to go for the real thing and choose for LM, SK or VC!!! I am so happy that I decided to go for this route!! And VC is do great to work with. This project turned me into a monster willing to control every tiny aspect, but Victor convinced me that I should just trust him to make the most beautiful ring for me. Lol!! I cannot wait to see the ring in real life!!!

Are you still happy with yours Caratlover? And do you always wear it alone or do you also pair it with a band?

I still need to decide on engraving. The center stone is an OEC, but the setting will be 'clean': no additional diamonds in the basket and no milgraining. But the engraving really sings to me: what would you recommend: have the lower part of the shank engraved (ie the space between the smallest french cuts) or not?

Re: 5.3 OEC in French tapered cut design: platinum or rose g

You won't believe this ... but my husband bought this for me in celebration of two big upcoming events - one to do with age, and the other a graduation. Yes, he's sweet ... but he's terribly mean too  ... and he's making me wait until my birthday until I can wear it. :angryfire: I can sneak peaks :Up_to_something: but I'm not allowed to wear it! I wore it the week I collected it, and I was allowed to wear it again to show some family members, but beyond that it's locked away!!

I cannot wait for the big day ... It's something that makes turning older sweeter!! It's been well over a year in the planning and waiting for it - so it will be a really nice day when I actually get to wear it!

As for how I'll wear it - It's sized for my right hand, so it will be alone out there! It will replace a ring that I bought for myself and which I've worn since I was 25!

As for the engraving, I had originally wanted lots of it, and milgrain too, but when VC e-mailed the pictures through I thought it best to leave it plain. For me, it's perfect that way!!

Whaaaaat? Did he let you wait for a year? How mean indeed!!! Without a doubt, you will be extra happy once you will be able to wear it!!

Are we now the only two Sophia ring sisters in Europe? Perhaps we will have our own PS Get Together some day. :appl:

I don't know yet whether I should have mine engraved. Something tells me that it's best to choose a style and stick with it, whether it's romantic like Lovestreet's and Wintotty's. Vintage like LGK's or Bright Ice's or modern and sleek art deco like yours....
The thing is... I love them all

Re: 5.3 OEC in French tapered cut design: platinum or rose g

I like them all too!!

Maybe do what I did and wait until Victor sends you a picture. I think when you see it, you'll know if you'd prefer it with the extra details or without. I originally wanted some type of rose/orange blossom/tulip design - because all those things mean something to me - but when I saw it plain, I preferred it! Funny how things turn out! But I do think the extra details do make it a little more personal.

If I was to wear it with a band - then maybe this one http://www.victorcanera.com/band-with-bright-cut-pave-and-engraving - but with french cut pave - then it's the best of both worlds!!

A PS get together in Antwerp could be fun!! I've yet to visit! But I do think it's very likely that we'll be the only people in Europe with this ring!

Re: 5.3 OEC in French tapered cut design: platinum or rose g

Yesss! A PS get together in Antwerp! :D

I will indeed wait until the plain version is ready.
And funny... I would pair it with the same engraved ring, but then the full engraved platinum version. But the rings are strong enough to stand on it's own. I like the one you picked as well!! Especially with little french cuts.

My girdle is a medium Arkieb. Are you also in the process of having a Sophia made? What's the progress on yours?

I am talking to Victor. I always thought Sophia was my dream ring but the stone has a super dooper thin girdle and I think with my lifestyle it would get chipped in that setting. I am hanging out to see yours to make up my mind one way or another. Actually I would love to talk to you more about it, if that is not too much hassle. I am in Australia so same drama with sending the stone etc.... I have some bad sketches I did I could show you... You could email me via a listing I have on loupetroop;
