.48 ags0 or sacrifice to go bigger?

Just my 2 cents here -

I have a 0.75ct RB solitaire and a 0.5ct RB in a 3 stone with baguettes. The 3 stone gives better coverage, and from arms length, you really can't tell the centers are different sizes since the smaller stone is flanked with bling. I'm a sucker for size too, and honestly if she wants the pear setting then get it, but please don't sacrifice on cut quality while still maximizing size of the center. I'd stick with H or above, but that depends on what color the pears are too.

I have no input on your choice, but did want to chime in and say that I have a similar experience to ecf in that my 3 stone gives better coverage. Granted, it's three rounds, not one round and two pears...but my finger size is a little smaller than your girlfriend's and my .78 center was nice but a little underwhelming, but provides much better coverage as a three stone.

Following many people's advice, I cornered my girlfriend after work today and had her look through a bunch of pictures that I had prepared for her. She picked out 3 separate rings that all had a few things in common: .45ct-.52ct centers and .15ct sides. At the end of it all she drew out what she called her "ideal silhouette" for the ring and this is more or less what I ended up with (sorry in advance for the terrible paint recreation, also note this is the silhouette of the stones only):

Here's one of the ring's pictures she picked out that she really liked:

I think at the end of the day she is more interested in the shape and style of the ring than the size of the diamond, so I guess that leaves me with the job of making it all as sparkly as possible. =)

Thank you all for your input, and making me really question what I knew about what she really wanted. I'm glad that I ended up talking to her again even if it only reaffirmed what I already was thinking. I'll be sure to update with the finished product once all is said and done!

Awesome!! I'm looking forward to seeing it finished - the outline says classic beauty :sun:

If you want to do bigger, I'd go to this one:

http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2953053.htm#

It's in your carat range, will still be white and eyeclean, and is AGS 0 for cut and just dinged on polish, which as far as I'm aware shouldn't, at that level, impact anything visible to you.

I agree that a perfect branded cut is probably overkill in that size. This is still excellently cut but is one that missed the mark to be WF's ACA line. Still better cut than the vast majority of diamonds out there.

And personally rather than have the setting custom made, I'd go with a Whiteflash setting, or James Allen if you buy there.

Maybe one of these, $2175 for 18ct wg with two .25 sidestones:

I'd go ahead and get a three stone if that's what she wants... I'm just not a solitaire gal at all, really.

Great! Now you know!

I know you said 15 pointers but honestly 20 pointers will look about the same.

I'd get that BG one posted earlier.

And pop this in it! Should be pictures up soon, but I'd reserve it so it doesn't get snatched up.

Should match the sides nice sense pears show a little color. And I bet it would give just the image she wants.

this would be the way I would go in this case. BG's already got a setting with pear sides ready to go.
