Hi, I have a 4 ct pear shape diamond. I am looking to trade it for round diamond stud earrings. If both are equivalent quality what should the diamond studs ct weight be?
You can use the diamond search tool at the top of the forum to identify Pear shape diamonds in the market now with the same / similar specifications as your diamond.
This will give you a range of prices - but you will not get those prices as a private seller, so you will need to search ebay / loupetroop / diamond bistro / etc. in order to ascertain a likely price point.
The studs could be any carat weight technically, depending on the color and clarity and cut quality of the stones. But as OoohShiny said, first you need to get a value on your stone. Your scenario usually will result in loss of value, because no one is going to just give you an equal value trade. They might give you studs that are worth 3/4 or 1/2 of what your diamond is worth. Be very, very careful.
How long is a piece of string? Without stats on your pear shape diamond the “value” could be $25,000 or up to $250,000.
I’m sure there are vendors who will “trade you” for two smaller size diamonds especially if your pear is good colour and clarity but again the price for 2 round diamonds is likewise variable.
Hopefully you can get 2 x 2 carat diamonds of similar quality to the pear you wish to trade. One problem is that pear diamonds are not huge favourites amongst consumers so a vendor will take into account the “hold period” they might experience before a buyer comes along. Whereas round diamonds sell like hot cakes!
