I do not mind, it is safer if people do not realize that it is real anyway. Still can't get the picture to load I even put it in different files.

I think this sounds like a fun project. It's a gigantic stone that probably won't require mortgaging the house to buy. She can probably have one of the jewelers around make her a custom designed pendant for a few thousand dollars and end up with a KILLER piece. How about surround it with yellow sapphires (so that the color is a feature instead of a problem) in a heavilly engraved platinum dingus? 20 carats should be about the size of a quarter.

I, for one, would love to be involved in an appraisal on such a piece.

Good gravy... I don't mean to be a stick in the mud, but someone is considering spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on a 20 carat diamond and they're coming to pricescope asking about fracture filling!?

Since you obviously are not in the trade (like most of us), you need to hire a reputable appraiser not only to check out the diamond for you, but--for a purchase of this magnitude--to guide you through the entire process step by step.

no it is not expensive. Thank you for being positive. I have sent you a picture maybe you can post it for me. thanks!

I think everyone is getting the wrong idea. This is a very cheap stone. It will not run me more then 10,000, maybe less.

It probably will not post, because it's too big. (-: All kidding aside, I can't wait to see the post, I've never seen a 20 ct diamond...actually, I've never seen a 7 ct diamond. Good luck!

i think we all got the sense that it's expensive because you said it's worth close to $200k. but you are going to be able to purchase at a significant discount?

thank you for posting it!

Rachelle,

This is not an exercise for the faint of heart. I simply would not bid based on the photo and an AIG document alone. Shipping it is likely to be a problem because they will want to declare a big value. What city is the bank located in? Perhaps you can arrange to have an appraiser go there. Does the bank expect anything like that $200k number?

the appraisal said 200,000 they say make an offer closer to 12,000. i am not a "rich" person so my limit is 10,000. I have alot to think about now. I was planning on a ring but that does not sound like it would work. I might let it go and see what else is available for a ring.

$10k seems ok. This is definitely a product for a 'rich' person. If that's beyond your budget for fun money, you should duck. On the other hand, if they realize that this is the right budget, it wouldn't cost too much to ship it out to an appraiser and learn a little more. If the bank is doing their due dilligence they should do this anyway.

thank you I will have to wait and see. I can't believe I am the only one interested. So I may not even be in the running. They do not tell you much. I am not sure now if I could even wear it. Thank you everyone for the advise.

You go girl !

Sounds like a fun project - any jewel that looks great for the money sounds like an eternal good deal.

It would not be over the top to ask the seller to let you examine the jewel with the specialist of your choice. This may sound demanding, but it is also a sign for you that you already take their offer into serious consideration - so it is good news, even if there are other offers in the run, as you say.

Why not try the thing on ? I did get to handle diamonds this size, but none round. Large round gems are routinely considered a design challenge. Why not though.

Just my 0.2, of course.

Heres a kicker I submitted a 39 carat colombian emerald neat neon greed but a uuuuuuuugly bleachy spot dead center of the table. Bought it sight unseen well part of a memo paid $300 Sent it to AIG came back app $105,000.00 HMMMMM, Sold it for $600 3 times on a venue I use. My point in case is if I cannot sell a 105k stone for 600.00 and please a retail buyer what credabillity should I or anyone else have on a certified appraisal? Bought 1800 carats of 8x6 aquamarines for $1800.00 $1 carat AIG GAVE A $125.00 PER CARAT APP ! CHOKING COUGH!

I guess it could be a fun project... I find I have a hard time completely sacrificing quality for size. Is it just me, or is that table kinda warped-looking???

Recutting might be interesting, but I'm not sure how possible that will be with a fracture-filled stone. I'm guessing it might fall apart on the cutting wheel if the fractures are big/extensive enough.

I have been seeing a lot of 10+ diamonds in the last year. Just finished a 9.50 ct last week, 13.50 ct. 2 weeks ago.

I've pulled out files to help.

RB, 16.81, K, SI-1, good polish, fair symmetry. GIA. Sold at Christies for $95,000.00, lot #293.

My opinion is that a 20 ct, clarity enhanced is NOT going to be very desirable within the market.

The company AIG: I am constantly suspicious about this company that they write "reports" for the sellers benefit. They used/currently? to work for Bidz.com, and are used by Robbins Bros.

"Buyer Beware"

Banks aren't in the business of selling diamonds. And, I have to ask myself "Why would they accept an offer of 12k if the diamond is supposedly worth 199k.

Any time I have seen a settlement of an estate or lien the sale is usually *not* handled internally by the bank. And, they don't approach private individuals.

hi, could someone please explain to me how a diamond this large (even if the color and clarity are a little on the low side) could possibly sell for 10 or 12k when an appraisal is for thousands more? this doesn't make any sense to me... we are probably going to pay just a little under that for a diamond just a little over 1 carat. I just don't understand how they could sell it for that little, it doesn't make any sense to me.

The color didn't like as low as K from the pictures either...weird! i would expect that 20 carats is pretty rare and would go for a lot more despite the color and clarity ratings.

yes none of this makes any sense to me

10K FOR 20CARATS BUY IT! MINE COST 28K AFTER TAXES FOR A 2.51 CARAT. MY IGI APPRAISEL IS FOR $60K.

I'm lost too (like reena)...?

How can a 20ct big rock like that sell for around 10k - 12k? and it's worth 199k - 200k? If that's true, that is one incredible deal.

A useful statement of 'worth' must include a declaration of what it's worth to who, where and when. I think the bank will find it difficult to locate a customer who is willing to pay $200k for this stone. If they could have done this, we would never have had the opportunity to have this conversation.

Diamond values vary tremendously depending on a wide assortment of variables surrounding the stone, the selected market and the relationship between these two things. This is the reason that none of the pros have onto this thread and given a real answer to it's value. There is nowhere near enough information to answer this question. A real appraisal is required.

I'm gonna have to be another stick in the mud who's now royally annoyed that I've had to write this 3 times already...
Anyway, does anyone else question the authenticity of that photograph? I gotta say, it's either the incredible focus on the stone or the bad shadows and lighting, but something is up with it.
With that said, have you seen the rock in person? If so, and if it's really a diamond, and a real deal, you don't need us to tell you to snap it up - go for it! But first, PLEASE get it checked out. Then do it again, then AGAIN because this sounds way too much like the emails I get where some diplomat from Gubanubaduba has 7 katrillion dollars then need to deposit in my account to get it out of their country and for my inconvenience, will give me half. Watch your back sista!

Hi:

Although I am not privy to these 'particular' circumstances, it is my understanding that most items that have been "seized or foreclosed" upon by the bank, end up at auction where the bank can realize the most $ possible. That said, if the poster wants the stone and can get it for what she is willing to pay, then it sound like an interesting deal.

cheers

LOL--exactly!!

But if it's kosher...damn, wish I had $12K!!

(if i owned a 20ct.... yeah right!! But i can dream...) The fact that each time when someone asks about your beautiful diamond and want to know what carat weight... i don't think i can get myself to spill out 20ct. I don't think the width of my finger is big enough to have a rock like that sitting on it. from the top veiw, my finger only measures to be 15mm wide. How wide (diameter) is a 20ct?

i'm sure it's a wonderful shinner and something for me to droll over...

**i'm learning here...**

Here's what I think... I think "Rachelle" is either a big big liar or likes getting scammed into buying fake stones.. So far on this board she has purchased a 2 ct purple diamond for $1200 and is now being offered a 20 ct diamond for $10k? Anyone else find this the slightest bit odd? And yes. I think that picture looks super fake as well. I mean.. maybe she's not lying and she really is just that clueless.. but come on.. even someone who knows NOTHING about diamonds (like me!) knows that things just don't come at these prices!
