I recently saw a ring from an online dealer that i really liked. The description of the ring indicates that it is a platinum ring, but an enlarged photo shows a 14K stamp on the inside of the band. I don''t know too much about platinum, so I''m wondering if it may be an incorrect desription of the ring....I also don''t want to shell out for a platinum ring and be getting gold.
Thasnks for your help!

14K is gold with other alloys - usually nickel. I''d say the seller either has the wrong photo or doesn''t know what they are selling. Is this on ebay by any chance?

Contact the dealer and ask them to clear up the discrepancy: it might be that they missed part of the description (i.e., 14k ring with platinum prongs, or something of that sort).

thanks all for your quick responses....
i have sent the seller an email asking to clear up the discrepency (i.e. incorrect description, or gold with platinum prongs). thanks again for your help.....

Probably was a 14k shank with platinum head. But most settings can be ordered in more than one choice of metals so they should be able to price what you want.
