I think yes you're making some alight compromises on cut, but to the average eye ii think they'll be negligible, what won't be is the 20 points you're getting more than you where aiming for. Also, the nice setting you'll be able to afford with nearly 4k left for the setting.

It's a game of compromises. I personally think compromising by not getting a branded cut will benefit the overall look you get with the completed ring.

I love that you're doing this for your wife! No helpful advice except to say that I've had David make me a few pieces and he's really great. His work is beautiful, and his pricing is the best I've found. Sometimes I think he gets pretty slammed, so calling him can help.

I think he can also source diamonds? I haven't had him do that though, so I have no feedback on the experience.
