Oooh very tempting. Pricing on lab diamonds are all over the place at the moment - this is lower for example than I would have expected for size. At the same time more than others are charging. Very interesting to watch the market.
I am about to take a huge chance and have an approximately 3ct oec cut by another vendor (who I have had some good success with), and they will then send it to IGI on my behalf. Will keep you posted.
Does anyone else see a brown tint to this stone?

That sounds like a very exciting project. We need more OEC vendors for LGDs. Looking forward to seeing your OEC.
Yes thats what I thought too. It looks very nice apart from the brown tint.
Hi all
Small update, the diamond has been cut an certified. It turned out to be a 3.05ct, H, VS2. I am awaiting final videos and images. In the meantime feel free to view the IGI report - https://www.igi.org/reports/verify-your-report?r=Lg487106257.
We definitely do need more vendors.
And a small update. It is in process, but will take a while. Cutting is 7 days (luckily good rough was in stock) and then it goes to IGI for 20. Then it has to be set and posted. So I expect about 2 months of waiting. Hoping it will be worth it. Will post it as soon as I have it.
@RockFox Please let us know who the vendor was!
@RockFox that is beautiful! Please share the vendor and many more photos.
I have seen some oros cuts and they are gorg , some I dont adore... prices way better than distinctive gem, which is way too overpriced. PERIod any thought or vendors not doing beautiful vintage cut lab
Hello nutty,
I am not here to make friends, first of all, many have blood sweat and tears into their business, sounds like you work for him ? I guarantee any jeweler can get on her and tell you Lab Diamonds are very cheap to buy it doesnt cost thousands to cut , ever... His stones are gorgeous , yes, but gorging the heck out of people inflating over 100 percent no doubt, I said nothing bad but he is overpriced... telling the truth and allowed to speak my opinion. Im hear to learn and find out more info on them, I dont care if you agree or like it or not. YOu are a lunatic, you have no idea, pennies, try thousands ... and HOW DARE YOU talk badly about ouros on here, TRYING TO lose friends??? cooo cooo
@OboeGal
As an impartial observation:
(1) Designing and patenting cuts is a lot of work. It’s also expensive. It requires creating numerous designs, cutting numerous prototypes, seeing what works and what doesn’t, redesigning, cutting new prototypes again and so on. It’s easy to underestimate what’s involved in the R&D.
(2) Screening every stone for good crystal and throwing out the ones with striations is also expensive. It requires special equipment, consumes time and requires you discard a lot of rough.
(3) Hiring high-level lapidaries that have the skill to do such precision cutting in a consistent manner (and achieve AGS 000 light performance) is much more expensive than hiring people with minimal training who cut “on the fly” without a plan or diagram.
(4) Rejecting stones that are not up to snuff also drives up cost.
(5) Certifying every single stone also adds expense.
These are all things that Distinctive gem does and Ouros does not. That is why the prices are higher.
The stones that come from Distinctive gem are extremely consistent in terms of material and cutting.
The stones that come from Ouros are all over the place. After several rounds with them, I had to stop and cut my losses. Sometimes the stones are decent. Other times they are disastrous. I get the impression that many of their cutters have minimal training and none of them use faceting diagrams. Everything is “eyeballed”. That works if you have a master cutter like The Gem Doctor. It’s an epic fail when an inexperienced cutter attempts it.
With Distinctivegem, you will absolutely pay more.
You will also get exactly what you expect and, if it’s not up to snuff, you can send it back (though their quality control is so high that It’s hard to imagine this happening).
With Ouros, it’s a major gamble - and it’s not a surprise that they won’t accept returns. Sometimes, they will try to pass off stone that are, IMO, literally garbage.
If you order from them, you might get a great stone at a discount.
Or if your experience is like mine, you will like get several stones that literally have to be thrown in the trash bin.
Let me say that again:
I have literally thrown several of their stones in the trash bin.
The issues with both crystal and cut quality were so bad that they were not worth mounting.
Ouros claims to have quality control but, if that is the case, their standards are clearly much lower than mine.
I did get a few stones that I convinced myself were “decent” enough to use as accent stones but, after mounting them in otherwise beautifully made jewelry, I regret it. They just made otherwise beautifully crafted pieces look bad…and cheap.
In the end, attempting to save a few bucks cost me way more than had I just paid a reliable cutting house.
I’m not here to attack, praise or sway anybody’s decisions.
You all can do as you please.
I’m just chiming in with my own observations, experiences and how I understand the price differences.
As for Alex Price’s diamonds, I hear nothing but good things. I don’t think you are likely to get AGS 000 ideal light performance like with Distinctive Gem. If that’s not an issue most people love the cutting and the pricing is as good as it gets.
