1 carat g vvs2, am i missing anything?

nothing glaring, VVS is a bit overpaying imo for me personally. Is there a setting you are interested in? maybe work with the vendor that carries the setting? if you could ask your BN rep to get a picture of the diamond, they might be able to since someone else requested one and BN were able to furnish one.
 
yea vvs2 is overpaying I agree, especially if your lower in colour (g) , better get a high colour eye clean vs2 stone with the money, nice cut though
 
That diamond cost more and is a worse cut. The crown angle is too shallow, yes large spread but light performance will be compromised.
 
I don't know if its a worse cut as personal preference comes into play when judging two ideal cut stones,it has a slightly higher HCA score 1.1 compared with 1.5 but yet it will have less fire due to the crown angle
both score excellent with the GIA, how would the first stone go on AGS cut grading system ?
 
GIA excellent is a very broad range and can actually include diamonds with poor light performance. AGS grades light performance with more strict standards. For the best cut, the crown angle should fall between 34-35 degrees and the pavilion angle between 40.6-40.8 with a table between 54-57 degrees. Sometimes angles can fall outside the edges of these ranges but only if the other angles compensate. This is actually not a personal opinion, grading a diamond cut is a science of how much light is returned to the eye. Two "ideal" cut stones graded with GIA can be totally different.
 
Yes but in this case the 33 angle is ok as its combined with a 41 pavilion angle , the HCA score is higher than your diamond :cheeky:
it has a higher light return.
Less fire but higher light return, some people prefer this sort of cut to the crowny ones.

What cut grade would AGS give this stone ? How do you look up the AGS cut grade with proportions

No, with a 41 degree pavilion, you can go as low as about 33.4 degrees for the crown angle but that is on the very edge of H&A specs. A 33 degree crown angle is not going to yield optimal results. Also, the HCA calculator is to weed out diamonds with a score under 2. A low score on the HCA does nothing. The diamond I suggested would have much better light performance.
 
How do you check what a stones AGL cut grade will be ? , any online software or proportions available ?
 
It isn't really straightforward as AGS starts all stones with a grade of zero and adds points to hit 1, 2, etc. up to 10.

However you can safely assume that if it qualified for that elusive 0 it would have been sent to AGS, not GIA.

The HCA is does not take into account personal preference of course, but more than that it is based on too few factors to give a definitive grade.

The GIA excellent guarantees that it is a good stone that somebody likes, but it may not be a stone that maximizes brightness and it may not be the stone that you like.

The HCA prefers stones that may maximize brightness, but you have to look at the many other proportions of the stone to be sure you have a good stone.
