Hi there!

I am pondering an interesting question at the moment, and I'm wondering what your expert opinions will be. ...

I currently have a 1.6 ct F / SI2 stone which I love, it gets a hca score of 1.8

I am toying with the idea of upgrading to a 1.78 ct stone, E /VS2.
This one scores 2.1 on the hca though. Is that a deal breaker, or not ?

Both MRB, both GIA graded Excellent.
I'd be interested to hear your remarks.

What's your objective in the upgrade. No offense meant, but upgrading to a 1.78 carat stone from a 1.6 carat stone of the same shape doesn't seem to make sense. That's a 0.18 difference which doesn't translate much in physical size.

If you got bored of your diamond, wouldn't it make sense to change the setting, shape, or do a bigger jump in carat size?

Hi delight. :wavey:

i know what you're saying.
I'm happy with the size, the colour. I do enjoy the diamond.
I was considering changing up the shape to an oval earlier, but I think I've decided against that now.
I'm mostly motivated in going to a 'mind clean' clarity.
After acquiring my other SI2 diamond (3.14ct G ags0) I'm thinking like a ps tragic and wanting to 'balance up' my specs?
ie, not just having SI2

But the hca scores are incremental in their difference, right?

Tbh the more I consider changing it, the more I appreciate the diamond I have.
But it seems to be a process I have to move through before I can move on to other projects lol.

What are the specs on the new stone you are considering?

Okay, here are the specs:
My current F / SI2 / 1.6ct / GIA Excellent cut / pol / symm:

(hmm I've never actually done this before, so please forgive me if I miss something...)
MRB (obviously)
measurements: 7.52 - 7.56 x 4.64mm
depth: 61.5%
table %: 56
crown angle : 34.5%
pavilion angle: 41%
flour: faint
girdle: med-slightly thick, faceted 3.5%
comes out at 1.8 on hca

The one I'm considering:
E / VS2/ 1.78 GIA Excellent cut / pol / symm
7.88 - 7.91 x 4.74 mm
depth: 60%
table: 59%
crown angle: 32.5%
pav angle: 41.2%
fluor: strong blue
girdle: medium, faceted 3%

As you can see, the prospective E is approaching a 60/60 style, which I have a kind of passing nerdy interest in learning more about.
My sister has a 60/60 diamond, which looks pretty good to me. And I like fluor. :)

ETA: the lower half facets are at 80 % for both diamonds.
