Hi everyone,

I am in need of some last minute advice. I bought a diamond engagement ring for my girlfriend and I am debating whether or not to go with this one:

1.72 Carat I-Color IF-Clarity Triple EX (Cut/Symmetry/Polish) Round Brilliant Cut Diamond:

I am sure this is an age old question but I have an alternative choice of going with a 1.50 Carat G-Color IF-Clarity Triple EX diamond. I cannot personally tell the difference between an I-Color and G-Color diamond but my girlfriend might be more color sensitive than me. Is the jump in two color grades worth the .22 Carat weight drop? Sorry I don't have pictures of the other diamond to compare.

Any advice or guidance would be much appreciated. Thank you all in advance. :twirl:

Personally I would rather have a G VS 1 or vs2 and not pay the premium for an IF--and a larger stone possibly. However to answer your question, there is an old unwritten guideline about the spread in price influencing characteristics: you don't want more than two or three bumps between color and clarity. A I IF is an odd stone for many. You are better off doing D vs or better, E vs or better, F vs or better, G si to vs1, H si to vs1, IJK, si1 to vs2. hope this makes some sense.

I agree. I would drop the clarity and aim for a higher color. I currently own an I, and catch color from it from time to time.

I'd take the ring you have posted by a window and see how white it looks. If you can't see a tint, then don't worry about it. I do, however, completely agree that paying for an IF stone is over the top, but I do understand wanting a flawless stone. This decision is totally up to YOU.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I am going to stick with the IF-Clarity I-Color 1.72 Carat after comparing it to the IF-Clarity G-Color 1.50 Carat in person. The difference between I-Color and G-Color became very hard to distinguish once the stones were mounted. Picked 0.22 Carat weight instead of moving from I-Color to G-Color.

Just double checking here.....was this diamond graded by GIA?
IF is a sweet grade, for those who love it....but my advice to consumers who are interested in accurate grading is to stick with GIA or AGSL reports
