One day, while looking thru photos after photos of PSers posting their spinel, I just had a strong urge. This is it, I must own one. I began searching and searching and I couldn't find the perfect one. So I thot why not start something from its rough, so I'll get to choose the colour, the size and most importantly the cut. So I emailed Jeff and enquired about his spinel roughs. And he returned with this:

image_954.jpg

Such great insights! It's like he knows what the final colour of the stone will be like before cutting the rough. He even informed me that the red one will not be that red after cutting. More likely to be an intense pink stone. And he's right! By then, I'm in love with the one on the left which is about the size I would love to have. By the way, the pastel pink on the right would be an amazing Asscher.

After being added into the cutting schedule, I waited for 2 months. Yes, it's like you are physically in a queue. I know I'm being impatient, but the result, is worth the wait.

Jeff is really nice! I had a photo of my gem professionally taken, what more to ask for.

For comparison, you will get to see my lousy iPhone shot under daylight

There's some sort of orangey glow to it which I can't explain, making it kind of neon pink. And amazingly, there's no red to it at all! I know the stone gonna be good, therefore I've selected some well cut melee before the stone even reaches me.

And this is the design I had in mind...

image_958.jpg

I'm tempted to set the halo with these deep pink diamonds too

What do you guys think? Which is a better idea? I'll need to finalize soon as I couldn't wait any longer to see it on my finger!

Thanks for viewing!

So it's the rough on the left? Ohhh......this one calls out for pink FCDs.  Hand shots of your lovely new spinel, please. Did JW send you any information on the original rough as in the initial carat weight?

Ya, mine is the one on the left. I'll do some hand shots soon, provided my iPhone photography skills improve to the next level :D

Oh, I didn't asked about the initial weight, but it looks huge to me. Out of curiosity, any reason behind your question?

Just plain old curiousity, that's all.

Very nice choice! It's so saturated & I like your description of an orangey modifier, which I imagine is just enough to sharpen the pink. I like your setting idea; pink FCDs would, to me, kind of be gilding the lily, but it's what turns you on that matters.

What are the dimensions of the spinel?

--- Laurie

I think I'd prefer white melee to pink. I'm not sure if like the who different pink colors next to each other.

The stone is lovely!

I'll take photos of the spinel beside the big white diamonds and the small pink FCDs for comparison this weekends.

It's 6.65mm.

I'm sort of into an oversized halo look like all below

But pink diamond halos are too sweet to ignore. :halo:

Thank you for your kind words. Awww, it's a hard choice. :snore:

Oh yes pink diamonds would really make it extra special!

There is just something I love about those antique halos. They are sort of perfectly imperfect if that makes any sense.

What about a double halo? White next to the stone, pink on the outside?

Yes innerkitten that's something I love about those antique halos too. Even those messy prongs are pleasing to me. But guys both spinel and white melees are in modern cuts, can the antique look still be recreated?

I think you can get a very similar look. One thing about those antique pieces that I think gives them their special look is the multiple prongs. So maybe going with six prongs? Aren't their some jewelers that specialize in that style. Jewels by Erica Grace?

Thank you for your suggestion FrekeChild! I have to say your collection of spinels did something to me. Bf had to stop me from purchasing anymore grey spinels (after I lost my mind and grabbed 3 of them).

I'll try out this combination as well at my setter's place. But personally I find double halo for a 6.65mm stone to be too massive on my finger.

What a gorgeous stone and I love that color! I am not a halo person but if I were - those large white ones would be beautiful!

Beautiful stone!

Maybe a rose gold halo?

Hmmm...in all your inspiration pictures, the halo melees are old cuts and the center stone is "plain", either cabbed or having very few facets (step cut or large broad facets). You can replicate it but the look will be different. It will look flashier because of the precision cutting of the spinel and pin-fire dispersion of modern round brilliant melees.

Wow it's like strawberry pink! Love it!

That really is such a pretty spinel. :)

Just hope Jeff will still have similar roughs available when my piggybank has fattened up!

Lovely stone, thanks for sharing!

I would probably set it in a purple halo myself.

DK :))

Oh my gosh. I adore this spinel!

Thank you for all the compliments from Lisa, DK and Armywife!

DK I'm sure Jeff will have something for you when the piggybank overflows.

And your choice of purple halo is such a fun alternative! It will bring out the neon glow even more. Right now, the colour to me is very close to the neon red pink flowers as posted, only without the red. I'm surprise that Jeff knows the colour that I very specifically prefer! :appl:

Add me to the list of lovers. Your pics are better than his - it is not at all a common color imo. Beautiful.

It's really lovely!!!

Anyone have LostSapphire's ring thread bookmarked?

+1 I love that idea!

ETA: Oops saw that you thought it was too big.

BTW your pics of it are gorgeous! What a lovely color AND cut. JW does great work!
