Hi all,

You guys have been GREAT and helped me immensely through this process.

I was very very close to buying a 1.42 I si2 xxx with an excellent hca score. Now, i'm even closer to buying this one..

http://www.gia.edu/report-check?reportno=1159903101

Now, its an H instead of an I, 1.38 H si2 xxx, with a 'very good' HCA score... what scares me is it's only $100 more. He says he was able to get it at a great price, which is why I got a great price. His return policy is aces and i'm not in a rush, so i've come for some honest opinions.

How could it be a full letter grade higher, but only $100 more in price?

The HCA score did go from excellent on the old stone, to very good on this one. Is that enough for the price difference? And something I should be worried about.

Stone didn't appear cloudy or hazy to me, and he said that wasn't the case at all ('crisp' I think he said).

Paid $8450, with diamonds in the band (think tiffany 4 prong setting, with diamonds going a third of the way down).

Like I said, i'm asking you for honest opinions. I know it comes down to what i'm happy with, but you guys have been awesome in guiding me so i'd love the input. If there's something you would be worried about, PLEASE PLEASE let me know. Even if it's just something like "i'd be a bit worried it wasn't eye clean.." etc.

Thanks all!

What was the HCA score? (I don't want to have to do it!) I am guessing it is over 2, and in that case, I wouldn't buy without an idealscope image as it could have leakage. Also, it is too deep at 62.5. Deeper stones can face up smaller than stones that are well cut with a better depth (60-62). And also clarity is not always equal especially in an SI2. Lots of possible factors.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy it if the stone has a good idealscope image and is eye-clean to you.

The HCA is 3.6 - worth buying if the price is right. :|

Can you get an idealscope image? Is it eye clean?

Ultimately it's up to you - if you like it, and are happy with what it looks like in person, then go for it. But if you are looking for a top notch stone, this isn't it.

Confirming it to be eye clean would be my first priority. Other than that the only thing I see that I'm not wild about I'd the 36d crown angle, which is fairly steep. Light performance is largely contingent on these angles, and if they don't work well together there will be suboptimal light performance. This isn't necessarily the case with your stone but it is more than less likely. But if you've seen it an love it, that's more important than any proportion data or LP image.
