I just wanted some specific opinions on this diamond. Purchased it yesterday in a James Allen ten round common prong setting with a six prong alteration.

1.31ct RB, VS2, I color, GIA Triple-Ex, SB-fluoro

Idealscope:

Face-up View:

Questions:

(1) Does the idealscope look tilted? I can't tell if it has obvious optical asymmetry or if the idealscope wasn't perfectly perpendicular when they captured the image. One side also looks darker than the other which I think adds to that possibility.

(2) Does the idealscope look good? Are there any red flags?

(3) Is there any specific concern I should look for when I receive the ring?

Thanks for your help guys. Just would prefer to identify any problems before fabrication vs after.

Here is the idealscope of one of the other stones I was considering. It was only 1.22 but I think it might have better symmetry. I only show this for comparison purposes.

Looks fantastic!

1. Yes, it's a little bit tilted, but you can see that the paler areas aren't symmetric about the tilt axis so that's not the cause - not that it matters, the "paler" areas will have absolutely no effect on how beautiful the stone is IRL.
2. IS looks fine. No flags, no concerns.
3. I would have it appraised once you get it to be sure that the stone is set well in the prongs, no issues with the casting, etc. But I wouldn't anticipate problems and I can't think of anything in particular to beware.

thank you for your response!

Follow-up questions:

-- Gemologist stated it was eyeclean. There is clearly a carbon deposit. I am wondering if it is eyeclean because it is near an area with (for a lack of a more accurate term) choppy light return due to faceting. Any thoughts on this?

Each side diamond has a full 5 points, so it hopefully will be very beautiful.

If by "choppy" you mean lots of things going on, lots of smaller facet shards all shooting sparks at different times in different directions (like this stone would be in that area), then IMO that's a good thing - the more that's going on the harder it's going to be to spot an inclusion in the confusion!

JA's definition of "eyeclean" is from 8-10" face-up. Is that your definition? If not, decide what the term means to you and have them check if this stone meets your specifications. That gives you a really good idea of what to expect but still isn't 100% foolproof as they don't have your vision and have only your word on your expectations, which may be different when you actually see it IRL, but it's not under the table and it's a 1.3ct VS2 - so we can assume that it's not going to be glaringly obvious under any circumstances! We can't assure you that it'll meet your requirements though.

Otherwise it looks like a very promising choice!

8-10" is pretty close. Most people's near vision focal length is 12-18". So yes, that is sufficient. :wink2:

I am hoping the fluoro is subtle but is noticeable in bright situations. She seems very excited about this property. Plus while we were OK with I color, I think she is glad that it will appear whiter in direct lighting. The gemologist report stated that it had a faint blue hue in direct sunlight :)

I have heard that fluoro being negative (milky, hazy) almost never happens with SB and that it can sometime happen with VSB, but I have no real experience with this...

I will update this thread when I receive the ring. Still working on proposal ideas!

Check out this strong blue fluorescent Brian Gavin Blue... very same specs to the diamond I just bought I color, VS2, strong blue fluoro.

Your diamond looks amazing! :appl:

Can't wait for the pix in SMTB!

Very nice stone and the 360 shows it nicely.

SB may have a worse affect when the clarity is low, but yours is not. It looks good as long as you can't see that inclusion from the side.

Wow, I can't wait to see it and give it to her :)

What does SMTB mean?

SMTB = Show Me The Bling. It's the sub forum here used to show off the bling! When you get the completed ring, start a new thread there.

I haven't discussed price... I think the setting is probably overpriced by about 500 or so, but I am confident the stone is priced right considering I'm buying retail. What do you guys think this stone should go for?

Thanks...

I'm gonna bump this bc I posted at like 6 am and it's gonna fall way down the list...

Still hadn't gotten a response on price.

I paid approx 7570 for the diamond. Searches of BN and JA seem to indicate that the typical range for 1.25-1.35ct I/VS2/ excellent or ideal cut is 7750-9000 so I guess I can thank fluoro for the help on price as 7500 was originally my absolute do not-exceed price.

Looking at taking receipt by Mon or Tues next week.

Delivery is looking more like Fri or Sat at this point. I thought they meant it would be delivered before the 27th, oops. Revising engagement schedule now...

Fabrication is nearly complete :) Not sure whether I'd post here or STMB first.

And this:

LED Light E-Ring Box
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AU9DDE6/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Delivery in 4-5 days... she's salivating and asking questions and i'm just giving a blank stare... it's awesome.

Would outline the plan, but don't want her to google and find this thread...

I laughed out loud  Good luck Maximus!!

After I'd badgered him for a week straight My DH told me that he actually already had the ring, and had in fact hidden it in the apartment. I, of course, didn't believe it for a second - he'd found the one fool-proof way to be sure that I wouldn't go searching for it! My disbelief was misplaced ::)

She is a major snoop, so I am not sure whether it'd be better to keep it hidden in a locked compartment in my car...

Very excited and anxious. James Allen is probably sick of me chatting and calling to check on the status of things, but I'm not sure what else to do with myself. This is certainly one of the largest online purchases I will ever make.

Inspection is supposed to occur tomorrow with potential for delivery on Friday. Apparently their "fabrication dept" is located in Cali. I will keep you guys posted (if you're interested). Apparently their Cali location is where their high end settings and custom jewelry are fabricated.

JA has to have one of the best customer service crews ever. They are all very reassuring.

Tomorrow.

IT IS STUNNING.. I LOVE IT.. and wish it were mine.. but then I am old :) she is a lucky girl and indeed lucky to have a husband to be that get's the best for his dollar.. best best wishes.

Thanks!! Very lucky she said yes.

ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS, Maximus!!!!! She's one lucky girl!!! CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU BOTH!!! :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl:

Thanks! I couldn't have done it without PS!
