Hi all

I'd like your recommendation between these 2 stones.

Both are agsl certified ideal cuts and both have medium fluorescence.

The H costs around $800 more than the J but is very slightly smaller. 6.89mm vs 6.74mm... Prob won't notice.

I'm very tempted to get the H for peace of mind but the J is definitely a good value stone and whether or not any colour will be noticed is anyone's guess. Face up most likely not.

Planning to set the stone in a 6 prong solitaire setting.

Do you guys think the H is worth the $800 difference?

Thanks!!

If the choice was H or I with fluorescence, I might take the I. But if my choices were H and J for a round brilliant, I'd go with the H. Not enough size difference to worry about, but the higher color will be apparent.

I agree. I would be going with the H.

I would rather the H

I'd go "H".

I agree with diamondseeker -- there isn't enough of a size difference (will not be noticed at all) for me to justify a jump from H to J... and this is coming from a J owner. I'd go with the H color, hands down.

It depends on how colour-sensitive you are... Given that you mentioned that the H may give you more peace-of-mind, I assume you prefer icy white diamonds over warmer-hued diamonds. This leads me to believe that the H would be more "mind-colorless" for you. Try this test, if you haven't already, to determine how colour-sensitive you are: http://www.xrite.com/online-color-test-challenge

If the $800 saving is important, you should also consider that the J could/would face-up whiter once set in platinum or white gold.

p.s. I would personally pick the H hands-down for that price difference. But I also prefer icy-white diamonds

For me, $800 is not such a huge increase in price, and .15mm not so great a change in size, to compromise on color. I would go with the H.

The consensus seems to be towards an H but the ultimate decision will depend on your color tolerance. A J likely will not face up icy white especially if you are considering a platinum or white gold setting, and the look will depend on the undertones whether they be yellow or brown, you should ask. What you should also consider is that J is a range and some will be closer to an I and others closer to a K, a good knowledgeable vendor should be able to offer insight into this.

Lastly, if you were willing to go from an H to a J to save a little or get a bigger stone, you may also want to consider a VS2 or an SI1 as both will likely be eye clean in the sizes you are considering. There would also be some eye clean SI2's which would save you alot. At the end of the day the best advice I can give is to work with a vendor that will work hard to optimize your needs and offer advice on decisions like how good the J is. You are on the right track with AGS000 though :appl:
