Hello,

I have been reading the forum for awhile now and I've decided to finally join and ask a question.

After reading about the basics I decided on a stone.
I liked that it has no feathers and the HCA rating was a 2.4 if I recall correctly.

I am wondering if there is something I am missing or should be worried about with this stone?
I do not want to view inclusions with the naked eye.
Will a vs1 be safe from seeing these from the side as well as the top?

Thank you,

The proportions are OK, but not "ideal". Since Blue Nile is a drop shipper, they will most likely be unable to provide pictures/ASET/IS, but I think (?) that they have a good return policy. Diamond clarity is graded from the top, not the sides. Still, by looking at the plot, I seriously doubt that anything would be visible. You can find VS2 and even SI1 diamonds that are eye clean from both the top and the side if you look around and verify with the vendor. Blue Nile wouldn't be able to do that since they don't house diamonds themselves. Is that the only place you've looked? Feathers aren't really a problem unless they break the surface or are on the girdle. Often times they will not be visible and even if they are, they can often be covered. What type of setting are you considering? Is it completely open on the sides?

I had mainly looked at Blue Nile as far as online retailers go. I did look at James Allen but did not find a setting that I liked. I have looked at chain and brick stores but have been unsatisfied with the price of the diamonds compared to quality (specs only).

The blue nile setting is

I did however find a scott kay setting that i really like.

However I have not been able to find a diamond through the retailers that carry scott kay.

My budget is around $8500 and I would like the best 1ct i can get in that price ranger including the setting.

Here is an option from GOG: http://goodoldgold.com/diamond.php?...=7000&resultsColumns=268435471&singleResult=1

The I color should face up really white with such a great cut, but you can always call and ask. I'd also ask if it's eye clean from the side and how close you need to get to see the inclusion from the top. The settings are fairly open on the sides, but really, who will be looking at the ring from the side at 6 inches away? A lot of inclusions can be covered by the prongs. As for the setting, they have plenty to choose from: http://www.goodoldgold.com/settingResults.php?centerShape=1&ringStyle=3

Also check out gabrielny.com. GOG carries that line and can order any setting from the website. I believe they will take 20% off the list price for those. Also check out Ritani. They have some reasonably priced solitaire settings that are better quality. You have a great budget and there will be several options. I'll look for some more in a bit.

Edit: I don't know how comfortable you are with color/clarity, but I can tell you that the difference between an H and a G is negligible. The difference between a G and an I can be discerned, however, depending on a number of factors. These include personal color sensitivity, where it falls within the range (e.g. low I vs high G), and cut. Even then, the difference would probably only be visible in a side by side comparison from the pavilion view. There are exceptions to this, of course. As for clarity, eye clean is eye clean whether it's in an SI1 or a VVS1. The clarity grades don't necessary determine how "visible" an inclusion is, but rather how easy it is to find under 10x magnification. Just be sure to always clarify the vendor's definition of eye clean. Some say 6 inches, some 12, some from the top, and some from the top and sides (usually not). That's why it's best to buy from a vendor who has the diamonds in house or can pull them in for inspection. That gives you the advantage of speaking directly with the person that evaluated it.

Numbers are fine, I love that small table/high crown combo! Wow, 16.5% CH! You are trading a little bit of visual spread as it faces up at 6.4mm, but not like you'd ever notice a missing .05 mm. VS1 should be totally eye-clean. Only thing is, I don't like not having pictures, especially a perfect 1.0 ct. I'd see if IDJ or some other vendor of your choice can get it for you and give you their opinion.
