Zhuzhu and sparkle boy
Wow. Thanks for the kind words. Zhuzhu I'm getting a new kit from Yamaha this year but I don't know if any amount of woodshedding will put me in your musical league: I've had the opportunity to gig with Juilliard grads and you're simply amazing, natural performers.
Sparkle Boy, small world! I still function as music coordinator for Yamaha's Sounds Of Summer camps and am active as a judge/clinician. I judged the Texas state solo and ensemble contest over Memorial Day weekend and heard around 50 marimbists playing everything from Mitchell Peters to Keiko Abe (that was one day...the other was around 70 snare drum solos...and a bottle of Tylenol)
One young man who won the contest's highest distinction performed Ney Rosauro's 3rd prelude flawlessly which, if you know his preludes, is astonishing for a teenager.
Yes, I directed and wrote for the LD Bell drumline from 1997-2005. I was blessed with an incredible community and support system. Fun, fun years. Were you at PASIC Dallas in 2000 by any chance? That may have been our best stand-alone drumline year. Your Plano schools, Marcus/FM, etc. are just killer in the drumline show genre. Our main emphasis was as a total package with the band, but okay - we were known to throw down here and there.
Appreciate the shout.
