Hello All,

I have been reading PS posts for sometime now and I think I have learned so much over the last year and 1/2 or so that I have been reading your posts. I thank you for that! I still have alot to learn but I am enjoying everything that i am learning. I have wanted to post for a long time now but I have been nervous but I decided to finally just do it. My story and pics below.

I have bought a new ring 2 years ago in April it was an upgrade to my original engagement ring. I had gained some weight due to quitting smoking and was unable to wear my wedding and engagement ring anymore and I ended up in Kay jewelers to get my ring made bigger so I can wear it again and while I was in there they talked me into trying to get credit with them and I was approved so of course I started looking at new rings and I fell in love with the ring I will be posting. The ring I will show you in the pictures had 4 diamond pieces to make the center stone look bigger but after a year of having the ring and it was totally paid off I went someplace else and found a 1 carat diamond to put in the place of the 4 diamond pieces. The diamond came with an appraisal report from IGI and and I also had it updated once the diamond was put into my ring I will add the specs of the ring below. I am also going to try and add a picture of the report as well.

Now this is why I am posting here. I didn't know to much about diamonds when I bought this one I know and understand a little more today then I did at the time I bought this diamond last year. I knew that I didn't want to see any black spots (eye clean) and that I should buy anything that is better then ANY "I" diamond and of course it had to have alot of sparkle and I wanted a good color (white). Well even though I feel that I got a good diamond I get a lil nervous because I never see anything on this site in regard to IGI so it makes me wonder about the report I have here. When I looked through the loupe thing at the store I didn't see anything in the diamond which tells me it is good as well, so when I took the ring to IGI I asked why I couldn't see the spot that is shown on the report she said it is a crystalized spot. I wanted to know if my thinking is correct as far as thinking that is a good thing because there is no sign of this from the naked eye the diamond is totally eye clean from the tope sides and bottom. Ok I will try to post the pictures now. Please give me your honest opinion on my diamond I am really curious to know if I got a good diamond/deal.

I tried to get good pictures I am putting up the best ones I was able to get. Sorry for the low quality..

Thank You in advance!

Here are a few more pics of the ring. Again I apologize for the low quality pictures. Oh yeah I forgot to tell you in the original post I paid $3600.00 for the diamond.

Thank You again in advance!

It's nice, but the stone is very deep...I wouldn't recommend anything deeper than 70 - 74% depth (my personal preference). As far as the clarity, it's really hard to tell from these pictures.

Thank You for the reply.. I thought I would be told that but being that I am still learning I didn't know for sure. I wish I had understood more when I bought the diamond and I wish I would have known about being able to go on line and get better quality for my money. I know for the next time. I am posting a few more pics but I can't really get any good ones I tried with my camera and they came out even worse then the ones with my IPhone.

Your ring looks very pretty, and it looks like you did the best you could for your knowledge at the time. I certainly had diamonds before I came here that I would not buy now since I know so much more. Enjoy your ring and don't worry about what is in the past! In the future, if you decide to buy diamonds, just come here first and we will help guide you!

Welcome to Pricescope.
Very beautiful ring.

Since you asked for our thoughts I did a little checking.
The document you posted is not a grading report from IGI, it's an appraisal report.
At the bottom is says the appraisal is based on IGI reports numbered 7026515A and 30139335, but IGI 715418A is inscribed on the girdle. Weird.

I went to IGI report look up: http://www.igiworldwide.com/search_report.aspx
I entered every combination of those 3 report numbers (with and without the A) with both the 1.06 ct weight of the main diamond and the 1.61 ct total carat weight.
None of these found any IGI report.
I'm not sure what's going on, but maybe there is more than one IGI lab, just like there are several EGL labs and you have to look it up based on where the diamond was graded.
You should have received the original lab grading report when you bought the diamond?
Did you?
If so, in what country was it graded?
Did you personally bring it to IGI for that appraisal, or was it given to you by the seller?

Next, you should be aware that the grading of IGI may be softer than that of GIA or AGS.
That means those grades of G SI2 may be 'generous' and if you sent the diamond to GIA or AGS it would likely get lower grades.
This doesn't necessarily mean you got ripped off.
The price you paid may be appropriate if the same diamond was sent to GIA and got lower grades.

A Princess cut with a very thin girdle is delicate and susceptible to chipping so please be extra careful to not bang your ring against anything.
To my knowledge AGS is the only lab that grades the cut quality of princess cut diamonds.
Since cut is the most important of the four Cs to how beautifully the diamond performs with light, if you ever upgrade I'd look for a princess cut that was given the top cut grade of zero by AGS.
You may get even better light performance by getting a branded Princess cut from a company like Solasfera or Whiteflash ACA since they have a specific cut recipe range the diamond must fall into and they are graded only by AGS or GIA so you can believe the grades.

hahaha, I feel the exact same way!!! True, you know for next time. Any time soon? :naughty: It is a beautiful ring and definitely blingy! And the way you have it set makes the stone look bigger, provider more finger coverage.

I think that every PSer has owned diamonds in the past that they wouldn't have purchased if they had first spent some time here. In fact, many regulars here have purchased stones based on lots and lots of knowledge and experience and have still ended up unhappy with their purchase. The truth is, we may think that we know exactly what we want, but until you've had a chance to live with the stone for some time it's difficult to be sure. Stick around long enough and you will see what I mean. :naughty: PSers are often trading and upgrading their stones for something bigger and better. It appears that you were happy with your stone until you started doing more research, my advice would be to enjoy it, continue to love it, and when or if you are ever ready to upgrade let us know. There are many gurus here that will be more than happy to help you select the perfect stone for you, whatever that may be.

Welcome to PS! :wavey: Your ring is very pretty!!

Thank You Diamond Seeker, I appreciate your response. I love love love your rings especially the one you have in your profile picture!! I have drooled over that beauty and showed it off to my husband a million times...

Hello Kenny,

Thank you for your reply. I am going to answer all of your questions. The reason that the there are two different numbers is because the first number is for the first time they looked at the diamond I guess with the first owner who had it and the second one is from when I took it there in my ring to be appraised in my ring, they said they would give a different number because I asked to have it inscribed as this was a big purchase for me and I thought it was a good idea. Now it is funny that you say you cant find it on line because I have searched both numbers and can not come up with anything either, but when I call they ask for the number and I give it to them and they have no problem finding it. I did ask why I couldn't pull it up on line and they told me that there may have been an issue with the system, I may have to contact them about that again. What is the difference between an appraisal report and a grading report? I thought they were basically the same thing. The report I posted the picture of is the report I received from IGI in the mail after I personally brought the ring there myself in NY.

I kinda figured that I was going to be told that their grading is softer then GIA and AGS but I have never saw a post on here about an IGI report so that is why I had to ask. But yes the next time I upgrade which will be a very long time from now unless I come in to some extra cash somehow I know where to go and a little more of what to look for!! Thank you sooo much for your thoughts on this and all your help!

Hello Christina,

Thank you for your response.. I do love my ring I picked out the best diamond in my price range and size range that I could for the knowledge I had and I don't think I did a bad job at that. But unfortunately as you see I have been learning some more which is making me think twice about what I bought especially when i see I could have gotten better for the same money or just a little more. But there isn't anything I can do about it now. When the time comes to upgrade or just get another diamond :0) I know where to go for the best knowledge and help. I wish I knew about you guys the way I know now, back then, you guys are so helpful and awesome! I am happy to have found this site and now be apart of it!! I have also sent some people to PS to gain knowledge and help in finding their diamonds also.. :0)

I'm happy that you found us too! =) PS is a fun and dangerous place to play!! :naughty:

Your rings look really pretty on your hand!!!! Your pics are not the best (but keep 'em coming!) - as you yourself mentioned. Also, I'm wondering if your rings are as clean as they can be. I have a number of channel set bands and nothing cleans mine better than an ultrasonic cleaner - sometimes I get lazy and just use the cleaner and the little brush you buy anywhere, but when I take the time - boy oh boy are they better looking clean!
