No...ring is around 37, car is a lot more. if I traded my car for a diamond, I could have a 5 carat diamond....that would be amazing. Fiancee car is worth more than my ring and car put together :(

what does he drive?

my ring is worth more than my car...but I drive a 98 cabrio

He has an Audi R8 twin turbo and has put a lot of money into a lot of after market things for the car....both of our cars together are about 400k but his is worth waaaaaaaaaay more than mine.

Purchase price was about the same for both.

I bought my 2007 Civic in November of '06.
I bought my upgrade ring in March of '11.

Current value? I don't know.

My car hasn't depreciated much in the five years I've had it. I paid cash in '06, and now it's worth $2,500 less than I paid back then, according to KBB. If it was in excellent condition, it would be worth only $1,000 less than what I paid for it. This is why we ended up buying new Civics, by the way. We looked for used, but they weren't going for much less than the new cars, so we went for new.

We paid cash for my original e-ring and my upgrade. My ring goes up in value every single day in my opinion. It is truly a thing of beauty, and it certainly has been a joy to possess. What it's worth on the market, I have no clue.

I don't plan on getting rid of either any time soon. The car I will drive until it flat-out breaks down beyond repair. The ring I will wear my entire life. I like the idea of passing it on to a future daughter, but she's likely going to have to pry it out of my cold, dead hands.

A decent investment on both accounts, I say.

Edited to correct purchase year of ring.

Holy cow! It would take us a looooong time to save up that kind of cash!
I'm always curious--do you park your car far away from other parked cars in lots because you don't want yours to get dinged? I would totally do that if I drove a very expensive car. My doors have so many dings in them from parking lots.

Yep. Ring is forever. Cars good for about 200k miles and then it's dead.

He is really really into cars...very obsessed. He worked 16 hour days for many years to be able to have nice cars, I always joke that his car is his second wife. I always park far away but there always has to be some ass that parks next to me. This particular car, he will keep forever probably. No plans on getting anymore exotic cars after this..just an SUV or something.

Nope, not as of now anyway. The car will continue to depreciate in value but the ring will continue to appreciate in value. I would say that eventually it will, lol.

I didn't pay that much for my Civic EX! I don't know how the LX compares to the EX, but the KBB says my car is now worth $14,440 and I paid just over 17K for my car when I bought it.

DH did all the work. We bought two Civics together and paid cash. Maybe that helped? All I remember is that it took a long time, and DH did a lot of staring the salesmen down and not talking. It was a long, awkward experience. In the end we kept driving back and forth between two dealerships. This might be why I plan on driving this car for as long as it will move.

ETA: I don't think you should pay sticker price for a car, DFire! My cousins own Toyota dealerships, and when I bought my first car (a Chevy) they freaked out because I paid just below the sticker price. Lesson learned.

It shouldn't be, but thanks to my lack of skill in reversing and thus the network of scratches, scuffs and affectionate 'nudges' on the rear end it is! I have no love of cars - as long as it goes I am very happy

AutumnNovember - I think I am the last person you would want to park near!

yeah i know that, but in our case we paid this dealership the full sticker price b/c they were the only Honda dealership in town willing to offer us $8200 for our crappy BMW,all the other Honda dealers were offerring like $4000-$4200. i remember giving them the BMW plus writing a check for like $12,500 for the 2007 Civic LX.

So, is that more than your car when you bought it brand new or more than it is worth now? My current "ering" is from my family and therefore priceless ::)

I bought my car with very low miles as it was a one year lease prior to me owning it. 2008 Subaru Impreza. It is worth the same today that I paid for it two years ago (minus the amazing sound system I put into it) :-o

They're just about the same.

I love my diamond and my car, but neither are SPECTACULAR.

I am not opposed to upgrading both way, way down the line... and I don't plan on going "new" with either.

Nah. E-ring is probably 1/3 of the cost of the car (sticker price).
