Yiiiiiiiiikkeees!!! How do I decide what to do with my two 1-caraters, after they''re recut by BGD?

Should I have the recut 1-caraters reset into bezelled studs or into a 3-stone ring?

  • Reset them into a 3-stone ring. You don''t need two RB solitaires!!

YIKES!!!

So at the risk of driving Brian and Lesley totally nuts again, and driving you guys totally crazy one more time, I'd like to solicit your opinions on what I should do with my 1.03ct and 1.00ct stones, both G VVS1. I've sent them to BGD as they have kindly agreed to recut these for me. These stones have special significance for me: the 1.00ct is my original e-ring stone and the other a 5th anniv present from DH. For the longest time, I wore them as earrings but they don't match in terms of appearance (I suspect they have very different tables) and size (one has an average diameter of 6.6mm and the other 6.3mm).

I'm waiting to hear back from Lesley to see how much of a size they'd go down to. I've been going back and forth (yeah, I know, I'm pretty fickle...well, make that *a lot* fickle) between wanting to have them reset into matching bezelled earrings and a 3-stone ring (with my existing 3.02ct F VS2 as the centre stone).

As far as earrings are concerned, I have these in mind:

Bezelled ear studs, either with plain bezels or with double milgrain bezels like Bobo's gorgeous pendant: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-little-oec-pendant.114076/

I'd then like to have jackets made for them, from my existing 0.12ct's, a la Bliss (hers don't have separate jackets, they're halo'ed): https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/custom-halo-diamond-studs-yipee.117126/

I hope Bobo and Bliss don't mind my posting their gorgeous pendant and earrings here. Thank you, ladies.

As far as a three-stone ring is concerned, these are my choices:

Something similar to a WF setting, which I can't seem to locate a pic for, but it's a micropave 3-stone style (if anyone can find it for me, it'd be much appreciated).

or Leon Mege: http://www.artofplatinum.com/4images/details.php?image_id=359

or as a non-micropave, non-haloed 3-stone with trellis setting.

So, now I'd like to ask you kind and ever so helpful PS'ers to help me decide btw these choices. I guess as the first stage in the process, the decision should be either earrings or 3-stone ring (and then the subsequent decision would be which style), as the choice between earrings and the 3-stone ring is the hardest for me.

To help faciliate the decision, the following are considerations: I currently have 4.649ctw martini studs from BGD, which I absolutely adore, but they're not worn on a daily basis unfortunately because I can't get them insured in China where we now live. They're locked in a bank safety deposit box and come out when I go out to special occasions. The 3.02ct F VS2 RB is also locked in a safety deposit box, but I will also wear it for special occasions. I also have a pear-shaped ring which I bought from JA and I've seriously been wanting to trade it in for another pair of earrings (perhaps 3-ct each). Once I've done this upgrade with JA, I'll then upgrade my beloved BGD studs to a 4.5-5ct solitaire ring with BGD, thus making the 3.02ct stone a bit "redundant" as a solitaire, which it is currently (I don't wish to have two RB solitaires). That's why I've been toying with the idea of having the 3-carater reset as a halo'ed, bezelled or as a 3-stone ring.

Oh and the other considerations are: the 1-caraters, if reset into bezelled studs would be worn on a daily basis for the time being while we live in Shanghai, instead of the larger studs. The 3-stone ring (if the 3-carater would be reset as such) would not be worn daily either for the time being, but that'd still be ok since i have other rings to wear on a daily basis. The new 3-ct each earrings would be my ultimate upgrade, as would the 4.5-5ct solitaire ring. We plan to go back to Singapore in about 3.5yrs time, after DH finishes his contract here, so all of these would be my daily jewellery eventually!

Send them to me? LOL.

For you though, I''d say get a HONKING center sapphire and put them in a threestone as sidestones for it.

Ha ha!! Funny, girlfriend!!

Actually, that's a *great* idea but I already have a 3-stone diamond RHR with a 1ct centre stone and 0.60's sidestones. I was actually thinking of getting a 2ct sapphire stone (either blue or pink) and put that into the ring as I feel the 1ct centre stone is a little too small (and reset the 1ct diamond into a halo'ed pendant instead). So, great minds think alike!

Sorry ... there''s too much reading to do up there so I just skimmed. Have you heard the term "gilding the lily"? THAT. Please don''t bezel (or worse yet) DOUBLE bezel 1ct stones for studs. Dangles on french hooks ... MAYBE. But large bezels like that one the ear on big stones just look so dated IMHO. Like "button" earrings. Or the kind sported by male rappers and, gasp, Adam Lambert.

But I suspect we have VERY different tastes so what I think can pretty much be ruled out.

Phoenix, I can''t give you any advice because I am far more indecisive that you! Heck, I can''t decide on one ring, let alone several pieces. I would like to say however that I wouldn''t
mind having that dilemma!

My dear, you will never be happy with under 1 ct. studs. It''s just not you. You must know that

I vote for the three stone ring.

throw it in a 3 stone Phoenix...

I voted for the studs. You need a pair of daily studs, Phoenix. They will look so much better when the cuts match.

Ditto!

Everyone needs everyday staple studs that you reach for half asleep and know you''ll look great in, and that will be appropriate no matter what you''re wearing and doing that day.

Thank you, everyone, for voting and responding.

Hmmm...I''m still undecided. On the one hand, I think that having another pair of earrings that I can wear on a day-to-day basis would be really great. And on top of that, I could dress them up with blingy jackets for special outings. But then, I do wonder if I really would wear them at all, particularly if as someone said, bezelling is a bit passe. There''s only one way I would wear them and that is to have them look larger than they are, and if I can''t bezel them....

The thought of having a 3-stone ring with my 3-carater and having more finger coverage is very appealing. But then again, would I still suffer from withdrawal symptoms from not having any diamond studs that I could wear casually for the time being?!

I think I''ll wait and see what other PS''es think also. So keep on voting and/ or posting your opinions and suggestions please.

Personally, if you know the smaller studs will allow you to wear them on a daily basis, I''d go with those. I don''t think bezellinig is passe at all; it''s a classic look. It''s not like you''re surrounding them with a ring of diamonds--THAT I consider passe.

However, it really hinges on whether or not you''re really sure you''ll wear those smaller studs. And, whether or not you will always feel like you settled. 3.5 years isn''t really that long.

I say three-stone. I have a feeling you wouldn''t wear studs of that size nearly as often as you think you might right now - instead you''ll reach for the bigger ones.

How are you? I'd say to keep them as is. They will look so great recut.

Or put them in a 3 stone ring! Either way, if you ever get tired of them in that setting, you can make them earrings again and get a whole new fun setting for your pet rock! Are you sure you like the bezeled look on *your* ears? I love love love bezels but they didn't look good on my ears for some reason. I was crushed!

However, I wonder if the bezels were too thick? The ones I tried on were Tiffany and they did NOT match my Tiffany pendant. The bezel on my pendant is so delicate but the earrings were fat doughnuts, Homer style. They weren't thick on the smaller diamonds, but on the 2tcw studs, the bezels were VERY thick! I wonder why they did that? Maybe if you get a thin bezel, they might look different.

I echo the ladies who say you will reach for your jumbo studs every day! They are your 24/7 studs, aren't they? And why not? Hubba hubba.
30.gif
Maybe the 2tcw pair with bezels can be your casual look? With bezels they will be massive, too!

Oh man, I did a bad thing and perused the Diamond Stud thread.

I''m in love. With TGal''s bezeled earrings. They are divine. Hope she doesn''t mind my posting her set!

I wonder how your bezeled 2tcw studs will look with thin bezels like these? I''m almost tempted to... bezel mine now! And this is after I bought platinum Vatche settings...smacks forehead. Will they go to scrap? Phoenix, I think you should bezel your studs first.

I wish I had your dilemma! Oh, if only I could have a third of your collection! I say go for the studs that you can enjoy on a daily basis.
