WOW, ok I finally bought them! Im Still so nervous, as I bought them from a wholesaler, they are very good si2's etc. Im just not sure about the florescence! I have a 4 day refund window. I dont want to return them, but i need to be sure i havent made a mistake!!

They are both 1 carat each. E, s12. triple ex, (same dimensions and angles) with SBF.

In the showroom, there was no natural light, but all i have read about flourescence made me think that i like it. Its just at 5.30pm (when i just tried to take these photos) the stones look a bit grey... my ering is a D with NF, and it looks bright. Of course I havent set them yet, and they will look different once i do, but im scared that they will look grey,. Is it just because it is almost 6pm?!

On another matter, its nearly impossible to take photos of diamonds from the packets! They look black in the photos!! But they are not. Ill try again in the morning to take some more...

Obviously I had a budget, and I wanted to buy the biggest/clearest/whitest stones in my budget. I paid $8800 for the two of them.... I do think they are great, but it is still A LOT of money. Im just scared, as I bought them without another set of eyes!! My Husband thinks they are very pretty, as do i, i just need more eyes that know what they are looking at....

Can you help put my mind at rest? How can I take shots to show you what they really look like?

Im taking them to a jeweller on monday, but in the meantime here they are! In the morning they were glowing white! So very pretty...

Sushi, please post the GIA report numbers and let us take a look for you (and we'll need exact carat weight of each stone). We can't tell anything from those pictures. You'd have to have highly magnified close up pictures for us to really tell anything.

Sushi, I think it is good that they are GIA Excellent cut. I do think you need to be careful about this one, though:

https://myapps.gia.edu/ReportCheckPortal/getReportData.do?&reportno=2136564950&weight=1.00

It says under comments:

Additional twinning wisps, clouds, pinpoints and surface graining are not shown.

This is sort of a red flag in an SI2 because of the clouds. That can have a negative affect on light return. Plus, you have to be sure that the strong blue fluorescence isn't making the stones hazy in any way. Look at them in all kinds of light and see if they perform the same. She if they ever look dull. I'd definitely get an appraiser to look at them before your return period is up if you can.

Hi diamond seeker.

Actually I was worried about that too, and there is no haze. The only thing that worries me is the fluorescence. As I said I thought at 6pm they looked a little grey... But I wasn't sure it was because of the light. Also I can't really move them that much as they are in their little white squares.. So im guessing that once set as they move in ears etc then they will be more lively.

They are really pretty, I'm just nervous to spend So much, (for me it's a lot).

I tried taking macro photos but they just referred the camera as I was so close and they looked black... Which they are not...

I'll try again though!

Thank you for all your help...

It is certainly a lot of money for most of us! The fluoro probably won't be a problem, but just be sure you look at the stones in different lighting to make sure the clouds aren't hurting light return on that one stone as compared with the other.

They sound amazing and I hope they look great in the day too. From the photo they look beautiful and white. I think you got a great looking set for your budget and that they will look stunning when set.

I'm so happy that you found a pair sushi! :appl: I don't think that the flour. would bother me if it has no negative impact on the stones. But I do agree with DS that you should be sure to evaluate them in all lighting environments. They look gorgeous from the photos.

I don't think that note is an issue DS. The one to watch for is "clarity grade based on additional clouds not shown". That suggests the clouds not shown are serious enough to affect the grade. The note on Suchi's report means the additional clouds do not affect the clarity grade and did not contribute to it, so they are not as much of a concern. Of course, its is best to check it out to be sure, but the notation on Sushi's stone is not a true red flag in my opinion, since the additional inclusions are not particularly consequential (i.e., did not contribute to the grade).

Oh, thanks Dreamer! I totally read that wrong! I just worry about all SI2's when everything is not plotted on the cert.

Thank you ladies! Im so grateful, ive had trouble sleeping the last few days, i keep having nightmares that ive lost them, or im playing marbles with them (?!), Ive literally woken myself up about 8 times with some different bizarre diamond dream!

You have made me feel A LOT better! Im taking them today to my jeweller (whom i trust, where I got my ering, but would have been 40% more expensive). I will also trust his opinion, plus he will set them for me... So in a few hours time I will feel even better...

BTW on another note (in fact ill start a separate thread, but ill just ask quickly here... ) what backs for the studs? i would be scared for butterfly as they might fall off. Im inclined to go to screw, but i know they are a nightmare. A friend of mine swears by the pousette backs. but as I doubt i will take these babies off, im not sure if they will be as comfortable...

Thank you ALL of you for ALL your help!

Ok they are fine!!!

I took them to be appraised. My jeweller said of course that sbf brought the price down. He couldn't give them to me for that price, and said the stones were fine, and will be great! Phew! He also said they would be very hard to find. So happy!

He said something strange though... First sbf makes them cheaper, second as they are both exactly a carat they are cheaper. He said you can get better discounts on stones that are exactly a carat rather that 1.01 etc?! As the opinion is if they chip they will dip under one and be worth a lot less. Makes sense but never heard this before.

I know I got a good price, I'm not sure I got the deal of the century, but I know I can't get stones of this quality for cheaper.

Being set by him now....

Ready on Wednesday!!!

:) wooooo hooooo

Btw went for screw backs. He had la pousette and I hated them! I don't trust myself with friction, so annoying but safe screw backs it is....

Re: YAY, bought my diamonds!! 2 x ESi2 SBF 1carat. 2nd thoug

Woo hoo!! Glad you are keeping them :appl: I would love to have a pair of E colored studs with SBF. I think if you plan to wear them all the time, screwbacks were the right choice. I take mine out every night so screwbacks would drive me nuts (I just have the regular friction backs).

And I actually thought 1 ct was the point that the prices increase. That's why PSers often advise those looking for a 1 ct stone to stay just under that to save some money...

So what type of settings did you go with for your studs? We'll be expecting lots of pics on Wednesday!

Star girl, thank you for your enthuiasm!!! It's contagious!!! :)

I went for 4 prong studs... Nothing fancy, I just want to see the stones!!

Re the 1 carat issue.. He was talking about the discount he can get in trade as opposed to the rise in the rap price. He said in not so many words that he wouldn't buy stones bang on 1 carat... Who knows, I never heard that before either. Would be interesting to see what other trade peeps say?
