Would You Think of This Setting?

Last thing from Sotheby's; I get so blown away by some of the pieces I tend to run off at the mouth...er, keyboard. I really like this setting & would never have thought of it. It's not as if they needed to make the sapphire look any bigger, it's already 17.7 cts. The look is eye-catching. BTW, the stone is a Burma sapphire, GIA & AGTA certed "no indication of heating." What do you folks think? Some will like it, some hate it, I imagine.

I think the workmanship is very fine, I wouldn't reject it if someone gifted me the ring.

Well, if you're looking for honest opinions, I think the setting is rather gaudy, and the sapphires in the halo seem unevenly colored.

But I wouldn't turn down a 17ct unheated sapphire!

I also noticed the unevenness of the sapphire coloring, but my best guess is that's intentional?

It's definitely huge and gaudy, but I won't lie - I kinda like it. That said, when/where do you wear something like that? It's a huge attention-getter and I'd be worried about someone trying to steal it off me!

I agree. In my humble opinion the setting should hightlight a wonderful stone not distract from it.

In all honesty, I don't really like the setting. I agree with others, that all the extra blue is detracting from the main stone, but it still is a glorious sapphire.
