Would you go bigger?

These studs are .428 each (.856TCW) -- they average about 4.85 diameter and are G/H, SI1. The settings are 8 prong martinis. I am perfectly satisfied with these earrings, actually more than satisfied -- they are pretty perfect. What I do not like are my ears. I would like to have larger diameter diamonds but am concerned that there would be not any margin of earlobe below the diamond and they would not look right on my ears. (I guess I could go just a fraction of a millimeter bigger, but it would hardly be worth it . . . .) What would you do? (if you had my bizarre little earlobes and these earrings . . . .)photo_204.jpg

They look a good size on your ears. Are you open to piercing another hole slightly higher up the lobe? Then you can go larger with lobe beneath studs.

Personally, I would not go larger.

If I were to add more bling, I would consider getting some dangling earring jackets to go with the studs.

DK :))

They look very bright and pretty in your ears. To me it seems to be a great size.

Thank you for the responses. Adding a second piercing is something that occurred to me too, and glad to see that thecat actually thought it might be a plausible solution! Concern is that after *several* decades, the original piercing will not close and it would bother me to have two piercings when I wear drop earrings in just one of them.

Thanks again to everyone who responded here and also to the post on the studs thread. Still listening if anyone else has any other thoughts . . .

I wouldn't go larger. Those look "just right". Lucky you with those little ear lobes.

Me too, I think those are a lovely size on your ears and jackets might be a perfect solution for days when you want a little extra bling.

I'm going to be the enabler here :cheeky: and suggest you go bigger. You're obviously seriously thinking about this even though you say these are perfect size. IMO you have 2mm to bottom end of earlobe which gives you plenty of room to get more sparkle in there.

It looks good to me. Maybe you should try on some bigger ones and take a picture of them on your ears so you can compare. Even get some cheap fakes in a bigger size to see what you think. For me a half carat in each ear is my perfect size.

Hi Sayde,
I am going to join baby monster and say you should go bigger. She right. You do have about 2 mm so you can go bigger. You would need to go up by at least a .5 carat to get close to 6mm. And it took me about...mmm...24 hours to get used to the new size. Btw, thank you for the nice comment in my new studs. I just didn't want to clutter up a pictures thread with too many comments, so thanking you here. I think a little impact would look fabulous!! :Up_to_something:

If having another hole while wearing drop earrings is a concern, I concur with the others who suggest you still have room for 2 mm more of diamond estate. If you're seriously wanting to go bigger, you might want to do it within the return period. Outside of that window, BGD has a must better 2 specs criteria, making your selection more limited.

Jackets. That way you have that perfect size for everyday, and extra blingy for when you want it.

I think they look lovely, and a nice size, on your ear but I think you could go a little bigger if you want to - I like the idea of trying sims to see how a larger size will look.

THOSE ARE GORGEOUS !!!
AND PERFECT ON YOUR EARS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with Ande above ( about the jackets )
I think you'd be happy and you'd basically get "two" sets of earrings out of one pair of diamonds....

That being said, sometimes you just want what you want, and if that's so,
I say you could go a bit bigger maybe....

My home-made piercings ( from back in the day ) are a bit too low.
I recently went to a mall store to see if I could just get a piercing placed a bit above my existing hole,
and the gal wouldn't do it.
She said my earlobe was too thin and the new piercing might sag down into the existing hole ( ???? )
She WAS willing to make a new hole up higher and a bit off side, but I couldn't imagine it....
And I'm with you, I'm pretty sure that after all these years, my holes wouldn't close any more.
I guess a plastic surgeon could do it, but.......

So don't want to threadjack, but she kind of scared me out of the idea.
Did you check with anyone about your piercings?

First thanks Andelain and others who suggested jackets. I love jackets on other people but afraid that even small ones will hang below the bottom of my ear lobe. What I really want are just studs that are perfect that I can wear all the time.

Getting some larger CZ's to try for size is a great idea -- will probably do that. Seeing them in the BM store is just not sufficient. You do need time, if only a few hours, to get used to the size.

I emailed Lesley at BGD to ask about upgrading as I was concerned about the two-category rule, and am coming up tomorrow to the end of the two-week return window. She emailed me back right away and said that so long as it is a dollar upgrade it is fine, and to just enjoy the earrings and "we'll be here when you're ready to upgrade." So that put my mind at ease. I can take a little while to figure this out. I feel better already knowing I don't have to make a decision today.

one more photo., strangely they seem to look bigger and brighter IRL than in my photosphoto_205.jpg

I don't see any point in upgrading unless you can go to the .65 each range. There is a pretty big price jump at .70, so I'd try to aim just below that. I wouldn't bother to upgrade to .5's.

Then to quote Karl, way kewl! It's nice to have options and some time to consider them, then you will be able to make the right decision.
