Would this bother you? Or am I to sensitive?

I agree, you are being too sensitive.

There is a real problem in this world with all the "Zero Tolerance" rules. It leaves no room for common sense. I am quite sure she was looking out for you as a friend and ensuring that no one was making a major mistake. I doubt that she is even interested in your deep personal medical history. While technically not correct in this Zero Tolerance world; some people still extend professional courtesy to other medical staff who are close friends of a patient. It actually works best for all.

HI:

Huh?

The friend's "motivations" don't factor into the situation because a "friend helping" does not include helping herself to PRIVATE medical records. At best, it is against hospital policy--you sign a legal confidentiality agreement upon hire and breaking that agreement provides grounds for not only instant dismissal, but other legal issues as well. At least, ends justify the means arguments for snooping, are, simply, ridiculous.

cheers--Sharon

I'm going to refrain from judgement, because I don't even know what that nurse means by looking at your chart. There is often a paper chart admitting info that is used, and then there is the full medical record, which would list the confidential health information you are talking about. She may have looked at your chart simply to get your medical record number to expedite something.

If she did look at your full medical record, and you were not assigned to her, then medical ethics 101 says she should not have done that, and in fact I'm surprised she even mentioned it to you because she could have serious consequences (including losing her job). I guess I should also mention, expediting faster admittance to friends is ALSO against the rules...

Certain medical info has additional protections, that are things like substance abuse, HIV, mental health, sickle cell. So if she shared any of THAT info, regardless if she knew the information legally such as being your provider, sharing the information outside the rules she would be in even bigger trouble. Unless this person is a big idiot, there is no way that info will shared in any way because otherwise that nurse is signing her own firing papers.

I'm sorry to hear what happened to you in the past. If you didn't tell me I would have said, that stuff doesn't happen, but horrifyingly, I guess it can happen.

I just want to follow up on my original post.

I bought some nice Caswsell Massey items, made a pretty basket, took her out to lunch and told her how much I apreciated all she did for me when I was hopitalized.

As to my complaint, well, I'm over it.

Thanks for evveryone's perspective.

well done, amber!
