Would Black gallery diamonds take away from center stone?

I've been thinking about this and going back and forth a little on it…it's not a look I'd choose for myself, but if she loves black diamonds I think it's a good choice for her. They're more like accent stones imo, and she'll see them from the side when she looks at her ring. I agree with Niel, it's a good way to add black diamonds without altering the look of the ring from the top. I'm not really a big fan of black diamond bands. I think this is an elegant way to add a touch of black diamonds to her ring.

As much as I personally do not like black diamonds, and as much as I LOVE the swan design, I think you made the right call for YOU by having the black diamonds in the side of the Swan. You are honoring your love's love of black diamonds and in a mostly unobtrusive way. She will be the primary one to see them, and also those with whom she shares her ring closely.

This ring will be unique. You have the center headlamp that will be totally unaffected by the black stones beneath, and you are being contemplative and respectful of something that she wants. It all ads up to a story to tell her children as an example of what love is. It thus will be treasured for generations.

Well done, Sir.

Regardless of what anyone here would choose for their own e-ring, isn't this the answer to your question? From your post yesterday afternoon:
Thanks everyone for both sides of thought. I have to say that reading everything here makes me keep considering contacting WF to switch it back to white diamonds over and over. I talked to the gf and tried to pry it out of her without giving away details on the setting etc, just asking how she feels about black diamonds in her engagement ring, etc...and the thing she kept telling me is to get her whatever I like and whatever I pick out and she'll love it. She did also remind me she's always wanted a yellow gold with a black diamond ring and that she also loves the contrast of the black to the yellow gold. That she just wants something that doesn't look over the top but still something that I chose and put together. * * *
Plus, you've seen WF's mock-up and liked it & have been reassured by WF that the black diamonds will not have an adverse impact on the center diamond.

I think the Swan is a fabulous setting and definitely like diamonds in YG. Since your gf loves black diamonds I think she'll love it. Whiteflash knows what they are doing so I am sure you'll end up with a gorgeous ring. My thought on the eventual band would be to have white and black diamonds in it.

Hi, Alex :wavey:

I just realized I'd neglected to previously say YAY on your decision to order the Vatché. I know it would have been less pricey for you to commission a local jeweler to make a setting, especially since the exchange rate is not working in favor of the Canadian dollar. (And I personally like to support small local businesses whenever possible). But I really think you -- and she -- will be quite pleased by the caliber of workmanship of the Vatché setting... and you've spared yourself the angst of using an unknown bench to design and fabricate the engagement ring. Looking forward to seeing pics!!

YOU are the best judge here. You tossed the idea of black diamonds on the setting to her and she didn't reply "ew, definitely not!" so i think you are good to run with it. It is not everyone's taste obviously but they are not the ones wearing it. i've had people straight up tell me they don't like my ring. so be it! i am the one that has to look at it every day and I LOVE IT.

The thought, research and careful planning you've put into this ring is beautiful. Go with your gut!

Thanks everyone. I am sticking with my gut and going with the black diamonds. It's very refreshing to see both sides of thought, and I wouldn't have asked here if I didn't want that :) But like the last few posts have said, I'm trying to go with what I've gathered from her, and after asking her again about black diamonds just recently, she even told me to go with my gut, and that's what I've decided to do. I'm still on the fence about having one side black and one side white diamonds, but I think that would look kind of strange, so probably sticking with both sides black.

Keeping in mind, they will be pretty small, so again, I don't expect it to take away from the look at all, just a bit unique and untraditional if anything, and her knowing that they're black diamonds, I'm sure she'll love it.

Will definitely post pics once i receive the ring, right now I'm playing the waiting game as my diamond is with Vatche and I'm doing my best to keep it t

Also that band above looks beautiful!
