Hi All!

This will be my first ring purchase ever, tried to at least somewhat familiarize myself with roughly the whole overview of diamonds...

Im looking for an emerald cut, more rectangle in size (thinking 1.3+ in L/W)?

Budget is technically 10k on the diamond... although at 23, life is still ahead so would prefer spending around 7500ish.

For size I'm thinking minimum 1.3, but if you guys have any ideas it would be appreciated. As far as color goes, I (think?) H will be OK? It will be on a platinum band, very simple setting. Ive been looking mostly at VS1 a little hesitant to go to VS2 or lower, but again... thoughts?

I have found one diamond, was hoping to get everyones opinion on how I did... right around $6800

Shape:Emerald Carat
Weight:1.33 ct
Color:H
Clarity:VS1
Make (Cut):Super Idea
GIA Depth %:66.4% Table %:65%
Polish:Excellent
Symmetry:Excellent
Measurements:7.71x5.28x3.51 mm
Length to Width:1.46
Girdle:Medium
Culet:None
Fluorescence:None

Thanks again for your time, really appreciate someone with more knowledge then me checking out my thoughts!

You'll find more traffic on your post later tonight when more members are on. Not everyone is really experienced in step cuts. Have you checked out the resources here on pricescope on EC stones? there are some more links at the bottom of the page:
https://www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamonds/emerald-cut-diamond
What i can tell you is most here suggest a video of a fancy cut stone and most importantly, an ASET to better assess light return.

Try a different topic title e.g. Emerald Cut 1.2 ct HVS1 pics

Can the vendor get you an ASET image of the stone. I have doubts about it's performance.

Higher end of your budget but a very nice stone:
https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamonds/view/Emerald/GIA-Certified-1-53-Carat-F-Color-VS2-Clarity-Diamond-JXYH5X

More budget friendly, but you need to make sure it will be eyeclean:
https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamonds/view/Emerald/GIA-Certified-1-3-Carat-E-Color-VS2-Clarity-Diamond-QLT7F9

This one is in the middle of the budget range and looks to hit all the boxes and has VERY nice performance. I would expect an 'real' photographic ASET of the stone before they shipped it out. https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamonds/view/Emerald/GIA-Certified-1-21-Carat-E-Color-IF-Clarity-Diamond-MQAYEZ

I would recommend you get one of the above. Why? There are ASET images and videos and information about the crown height.

Ignore the vendor score of the stones. And make sure you are comparing MEASUREMENTS not weight when it comes to Emerald cuts.

Hey Gypsy

Thanks for taking the time to reply... I requested brilliance get me an ASET when they get the stone in house. I also found another stone and posted another thread.

Loved the upper level stone you posted, but unfortunately i think I'm trying to stay above 1.44 L/W as I'm trying to get that more rectangle look. Any other suggestions?

Thanks again!

I recommend 1.3-1.4 ratio. I think the 1.44 is too skinny unless you were putting side stones with it. It is best to stay with one thread so people can follow what you are looking at. I'll see if I see any others besides the ones Gypsy posted for you.

Thanks Diamondseeker, 1.4ish would prob be best then, thanks for the tip. Any thoughts on the one I posted in the other thread? I don't know much about ASETs but I think the white on top isn't good?

Also is there anywhere to sacrifice in order to get like a 1.4ish carat? Or does my 1.3+ seem reasonable. My girlfriend has slender fingers as she is a small petite woman. Trying my best to learn as I go, but its such a big purchase for me so its nerve wracking lol

Hi again! I saw your post in your other thread but Ill reply here to consolidate. A 1.34 L/W wouldn't be too "Square" would it be? I have requested an ASET on the stone you posted and JA is getting it for me so I will post it here when it comes back. Were there any other standouts I should request? Also were there any stones on places like Brilliance that have potential? I could always request them to get me pics and asets if possible?

What should I be focusing on when I search? I know that ASET and pictures are key with these diamonds, but i also assume there are some nice ones out there that are posted without such things that I could always pursue to figure out if they are up to snuff?

Thanks again for the help, you guys are lifesavers here.. I have a diamond dealer as well, but I know they have like a 20% markup... which I'm trying to avoid if possible

Awful.

Go back to the ones I posted for you. Compare dimensions not weight.

There are three winners there.

Thanks gypsy, my only question with the 1.2, is since the Color and Clarity are so high, would it be worth it sacrificing on that some to get a bigger diamond.

When you say weight vs dimensions, do you mean the 1.2 may look somewhat bigger because of certain dimensions?

Also is the 1.2 your favorite out of the 3 gypsy? What do you mean by asking for a real ASET?

Edit - Also If you have time, was there anything you saw on James Allen that caught your eye and I could request Asets on?

You're the expert here so I'll go with your judgement! Again, really appreciate the help

Not an expert, but my guess is no on this one. It'd be nice if we could 'tag' people in posts like you can in Facebook! :cheeky:

This was recommended in another post, so I'd add it to your ASET request list:

No.
Sorry I was away without my computer.

Can you list all your questions here?

And yes, I did mean that A 1.2mm stone can look larger than a 1.4 if the dimensions (measurements) show it to be. So when you think 'this stone is bigger' look at dimensions ONLY not at the weight.

Re: Would appreciate some direction on engagement ring purch

Hey Gypsy

Sorry for the long reply. Took a step back to try to do some more research about ASETs and all. I think my budget was a tad small, so I've raised it to about an 11k max on the diamond.

I'm hoping for around 1.5+ cts if possible. I've looked on enchanted diamonds, but from what I saw I don't think there is anything out there with a decent ASET?

I'm struggling on JA to find what stones might be "worthy" of requesting an ASET. Do any of you see any potentials that I could request ASETs on? I'm starting to get worried I won't find anything as I've looked day after day on EC... And I'm a lost cause on JA cause I don't know what I should be looking for :/

Any assistance would be appreciated by anyone! Thanks

Re: Would appreciate some direction on engagement ring purch

Also Gypsy you think this is still a viable pick? https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamonds/view/Emerald/GIA-Certified-1-53-Carat-F-Color-VS2-Clarity-Diamond-JXYH5X

What about the middle of the stone? Seems like there isn't a lot of lot performance there? Also should I be concerned about VS2 and crystal in the GIA report?

Any other potentials you see on the 11k budget or under? I've given up on my L/W ratio stuff... I think anything above 1.3 would be fine :)

Thanks for your help! As well as everyone else!
