Floriday, I only have one caution about an emerald cut. They have to be kept spotless, and since she's kind of a no fuss woman, the pear may be the better option. Although there's really nothing more elegant than a beautiful emerald cut.
Edited to add: The reason they need to be kept spotless is that they show every little bit of oil or spec of dirt or water spot. It's just inherent in that type of cut that to really sparkle, they have to be really clean.
