Charles Manson 'marriage': US murderer 'granted licence'

18 November 2014 Last updated at 03:36 GMT
American mass murderer Charles Manson, 80, has reportedly been granted a licence to marry a 26-year-old woman who has been visiting him in prison.
The marriage licence was issued 10 days ago for Manson and Afton Elaine Burton, the Associated Press reports.
Manson is serving a life sentence for the murders of seven people and one unborn child in Los Angeles in 1969.

I wonder what would make any woman want to marry him. Would she be so keen if she would actually have to live with him?

Fame?
Book and movie deals?

She doesn't have to support him.
No housecleaning, cooking or shopping.
I, and other taxpayers, already do that for him.

Apparently she doesn't have to have sex with him, as I heard conjugal visits are not allowed.

Yep I can see all that being a motive for her. Have you seen a photo of her? Apparently she has been fighting to prove his innocence for 10 years. So she started when she was 16.

I read that the marriage is happening so she gets more access to things as far as trying to exonerate him.

What a bunch of nutjobs.

He would probably be especially interested in blood diamonds ;))

One of my friends has this as a FB status:

Before you complain about your life, remember, there are 2 parents out there tonight having to ponder Charles Manson as a son in law.

made me chuckle.

I would have thought he had no right to marry. Wow.

World's MOST eligible??

HI:

Apparently sparkle is the new orange. :knockout:

It was sarcasm. :Up_to_something:

People are weird.

Ah but was it the same as a healthy sense of humour?

Maybe she feels imprisoned by her own life in some way so can relate. You can bet your bottom dollar she doesn't spend a lot of time thinking about his victims or his victims' families.

"If someone's facing the death penalty and they're trying to get their conviction overturned or their sentence shortened and you're the one who's dealing with it, you become very important and powerful. Some of these women in their earlier lives have not been in this kind of position of power," Isenberg told the Daily Telegraph.

Linked to this sense of purpose is the potential for women to nurture convicted criminals; those who have been misunderstood, and maintain their innocence. More often that not, as is the case with Burton and Manson, an individual will invent mitigating circumstances - despite the most damning of evidence.

This article seems to suggest a motive for her for marrying him is to so she can get access to information only those next of kin can.

It seems to me that he should not be granted the privilege of getting married. He gave up all those privileges when he committed his heinous crime. All I can say is wow is our system messed up. :nono: :nono: :nono:

16?! Where were her parents?

She's not a bad looking girl and I'm sure she's a lovely person, but I'd seriously question the sanity of someone who is "dating" a man with a swastika on his forehead.

And who orchestrated the murders of 9 innocent people ( and probably more) and an unborn baby. Sharon Tate was more than 8 months pregnant.

He is a master manipulator. Clearly, he has the ability to control people, so in addition to the potential fame (that could benefit both of them), he may have cohered her into marriage. In addition, his GF strongly believes that Manson is innocent and she devotes a fair amount of time & effort into trying to prove this. Marrying him would likely grant her access to information that is only available to relatives, so that she can continue her efforts.
I prefer to put the marriage in my WTF files….

There are heaps of women apparently fans who date serial killers, men on death row, and men in prison - there are books on them, dating websites for them and so on. :nono:

I don't know why she would want to get him let out unless she has some homicidal tendencies herself....

We have some states where gay couples are still not allowed to marry their partners and its fine for a serial killer to get a marriage license. Something is seriously messed up with our system!!!

And where the heck are her parents!!!!!

She bears a striking resemblance to Susan Atkins.

It makes me sick. Certainly no one is thinking of the terror and pain Sharon Tate felt as she plead for the life of her baby.

I almost sent that meme to my SIL,

I have watched a show on Netflix that is about women who marry men in prison. It was very interesting. I think fame might have something to do with it. Maybe the control. She always knows where he is. Maybe she really does believe he is innocent. Who knows. People vary right?

Surely, this girl is unbalanced.
Sane people just don't marry killers who are in jail.

This.

Other than that... beyond the initial shock... meh. If this young woman want to throw her life away by marrying Charles Manson, chances are it isn't much of a loss to the rest of society.
