working with diamonds in sterling silver

Can one work with sterling silver as easily as 14k gold? Can diamonds be taken out of a sterling silver setting and new ones put in? The reason why I ask this is because I always find unique pieces that I LOVE, but they are set with cheapo diamonds. I don''t mind ss at all. Anyway, what I found this time a spider pendant. It is ss with a 14k yellow gold bezel around the body which consists of black diamonds. The legs are white diamonds of poor quality. Is it possible to replace them if they are set in ss? I wish I had a pic or link but this item is at the store only and not available on the internet.

Probably possible but also probably not worth it. Silver is so soft that I wouldn''t put anything quality in it personally...they''d be very likely to fall out.

Sure its possible...

I design jewelry pieces using Silver..., I just love that combo

You must remember..., antique jewelry (prior to platinum) was made from silver backed with gold..., the Diamonds were set in silver and the back of the jewelry was plated with gold to avoid tarnish on the clothes (fabric)...
