Hey

The diamond seems to me good, the grading you have chosen E/VVs2 is good however even G/VS1-VS2 will be
good enough and will appear Just like VVS quality, is there any reservation you have on color/clarity,
I think by choosing G/VS1-VS2 you with same price you could go with bigger size of the stone.
Is the stone GIA certified? if Yes than I think stone should be okay, the only thing that I could suggest is to go
with G/VS1-VS2, below is the quality I would choose If I were you:

Well first off, welcome!

Its nice that have dont your research and know what the 4 c are, but what I submit to you, is that having the "top'" in all categories isnt necessarily required to have a pretty stone.

cut This you dont want to compromise on. Cut is why makes a diamond sparkle. For fancies, like an oval, its not quite as easy as going just by the numbers. A round you can pretty much know by looking at the certificate if its going to be a good a pretty good performer, you arent as lucky with fancies. Its a starting point, but you need to see them. Pictures, ASETS, and having a gemologist review them for you is the best way to go.

color color is tough... if this was a round, id say drop down to an I, because you wouldnt see it. but an oval isnt a round  those shapes concentrate the color a more than a round does, so going down in color too much isnt quite as good an idea. However, as said you could drop down to a G and be happy.

clarity Now there are two schools of thought on clarity. Most of us here feel there is no reason to pay for clarity that high. Some people, on the other hand, like the idea of clarity. And thats really what it is, an idea. Because you dont wear the certificate on your hand, you wear the diamond. So if you find a stone thats an SI1 and eye clean, or a VVS1 stone thats eye clean, the only difference youll feel is the price

carat thats dictated by price. But the thing is, most woman care about it. So if you can make minute concessions in the cut and color clarity, you can afford a larger stone. And believe me, as long as the stone is eye clean and you stay above a G, you'd be safe.

Now ovals arent as easy to find as rounds. It would be great to say "id like a G SI1"... but just because you do doesnt mean you can find one. So you have to just give yourself limits... "eye clean G or better" and see what you can find

how much is that diamond priced at?

It looks like a beautiful stone! I would love the high color and clarity!

Thank you for your responses!

Yes the diamond is GIA certed with Laser inscription.

Would you say the diamond has anything out of the normal with a bowtie??

As you have stated the cut is most important to me. BUt with an oval (fancy cut) it is hard to figure that out, also without any large dark bow tie affect. Are there any tips to identify this other what has been posted already...?

It isnt the cheapest sitting at $10k AUD

I have seen others locally (AUS) shown to me
weight - 1.04ct
clarity - VS2 (can see inclusions with 10x loupe) also can see slight black dot from naked eye (i think it is due to reflection of it)
Polish / Sym - EX / VG
Table / Depth - 53% / 65.6%
GIA certed
Price - 9.7k AUD

(so i was thinking my original post was the much better quality for the price) my thoughts anyway....

Please tell me otherwise, thats what i am here for =)

Thanks you all again

Would you consider buying one from the us and having it shipped? That's a whole lot of money! There were comparable on James Allen for like a few thousand less. you would come out ahead even considering duties.

The diamond is sourced from the US and brought over through the jeweler.

I found the exact same diamond (GIA Cert number and gradings) on a US for a slightly cheaper price (mid 8k), although this did not factor in the customs / site insurance / tax fee. The fees alone would have cost 1.5 - 2k which bumps the price up over the jewelers.

I am in two minds with it, as i will need to put a setting which would be another 2.5 - 3k. Similar to this with design but with one halo and less block like with the shoulder / halo diamonds.

sakari_8 - the diamond is very nice, but with my previous post the VS2 i saw had quiet a few inclusions. I realise that every diamond will be different. Also my partner has thin long fingers so a larger stone may look too big ??? ( i am asking ladies here, maybe im kidding myself) lol

Thanks

Really?! I've seen people talk about shipping overseas and I have never heard it cost that much, taxes and all. You'd know better than I, but I've never heard that! Wow.
Bit I saw someone recently make a copy of that tiffany ring with a setting from James Allen and a 1ct F color that cost about 5k (the stone)

Or if you, like you said, only wanted one halo, there's this ritani, and it says they would do it for an oval

Plus a stone like these (can't recommend exactly without gemologist review) and it would still save you money shipping

Now I'm not saying pick these, but I'd explore my options. I've heard a handful of Australians on here find it cheaper to pay the import taxes that to go local....

Whatever you decide sounds beautiful

I do see your point.

Also i do guess that the tax and fees depends on the price of the diamond to start with. So you could be 100% correct.

I really do like the picture you posted, double halo i am not so much a fan but in all looks great!

I was thinking of getting the wedding band made at the same place, to keep it matching in colour?? thoughts

18ct White gold how often do you normally need to replace the rhodium (if she was to wear it everyday)?? just as an approx.

Thanks

I think Usa stones are cheaper depending on the exchange rate. You should be able to find out for yourself easily enough. You will pay 10% gst and can also be hit with 5% customs without the proper paperwork. Shipping can also be expensive due to insurance costs but only the seller can quote for that. And you want to fairly certain its the right stone or you'll have to pay to return it. No refunds on gst either :( I spent 30k on my ering when the aussie dollar was better back in feb and we decided it would be financially worthwhile to travel to the US to buy in person and have a subsidised holiday!!!
