Jeez, they don't show you the back. Do you think it's just "pinned" into the hair?

No clue. I have fine hair and not a ton of it, do it has to be secured.

I have pinned a brooch to my ponytail holder in the past. But that was a sterling one, not diamonds and emeralds, although it did have sentimental value. Sorry for the poor quality photo--this was taken 6 years ago!

very very pretty (and beautiful hair)
the only thing that puts me off brooches in my hair is ( i have very fine hair) i would worry it would get caught up and pull and hurt

I found this sweet salt spoon made in 1789 by (the workshop of) the famous London silversmith Hester Bateman last week--cost me $5!

It's wonderful! What history! What craftsmanship!
You may recall that I have a "thing" for silver spoons!

just an interesting tip bit on a quite news day (Easter Monday is a public holiday here)
1711934027849.png
The parchment, signed in 1735, appears to be an agreement for one year between a Matthew East and James Tillyar. Found down the back of a couch

the moral of the story is check under your couch cushions
there may be more than loose coins and old peanuts down there:lol:
i only find Wen pearls and Navajo jet under my mine so no mystery here :lol-2:

So anybody related to a Matthew East or a James Tillyar ? presumably British (as Captain Cook did not even land here till 1769 so it isnt local)

so... who has got something to show ?

im having trouble locating a ss enhancer bail that doesnt cost a fortune in freight for my Queen and Prince Philip cameo because i want it to be done soon

i was just googerling to see what real cameos are made of and i found this

Authentic carved cameos are made from natural materials, such as shell, agate, onyx, ivory, coral, mother-of-pearl, and various gemstones. Genuine painted cameos are typically made from porcelain. If the cameo in question is made from plastic or resin, it is a fake

i found this to be worded a bit harsh as my $8 cameo is vintage mid century plastic thank you !
but is also why i dont want to pay $40 odd dollars shipping from the US on a $25 purchase

My house isn't as cluttered as I make it sound!
I have 2 glass display cases, and some bookshelves in the office room. I mostly limit myself to small objects, unless I see a piece of furniture that I can't live without. I have antique dishes displayed on the walls in the kitchen.
I have colorful glass items in some windowsills. Of course I have lots of art on the walls, too!

I got this Simmons (hallmarked) box link gold filled chain for 25$ at a local antique market. Just to wear as a choker layer. I saw this vintage box link style on loupetroop and really liked it so have been keeping an eye out since I don’t think I’d wear it enough to want to spring for a solid gold version lol.

Yes, it was only $5 for the ring. It was unusual, and I couldn't pass it up.
Did you see the Albert and Victoria cup I posted a few days ago^
I was thinking of you when I bought it!

Ok @Daisys and Diamonds

Check this out.
It's a commemorative mug with Victoria and Albert.
I believe it's a cider mug, made in the 1840's or so.
Found at the antique mall just yesterday. I only paid $8.00.

Yes, she still has Albert!
I don't know why it was being sold, but I was lucky to find it!
They probably made a lot of these, but I still feel it's special.

it is special :kiss2:
look how long it has survived =)2
it must have been sitting around for a generation or two, sitting all forlorn and forgotten in the back of some nana's china cabinet just waitng for you to come along and take it home and love it :kiss2:
i think some of the memorilia with Victoria i see here (post Albert) could have emigrated with a British owner who moved to NZ mid 20th century like Gary's family (alas no royal memoribilia came with his mum but she did give me the newspapers from lady Diana's wedding that her sister send her at that time)

what i love about royal memoribilia is that it was made at every price point, almost everyone could celebrate a jubilee or a happy family event (or commemerate the passing of their soverign)
i have a large and chunky glass milk jug from i think from Victoria's diamond jubilee, its a miricle any of this even survived into the 21st century (i think that would make old Queen Victoria happy)

now is definatly the time to find it and buy it, prices have tanked in the last 6 or 7 years, as they say as for the first time in our history two generations have been down sizing at once
(have i told you i hate minimilism)
and the market is by now saturated, i just find it sad no one wants nana's treasures,
so you and I have to love it for the nanas who loved it before us
