The best I did recently was find a vintage engraved platinum band sold to me at scrap value for just under $40. Not sure if it goes well with my engagement ring though (maybe I’ll post over in the one ring or two thread @YadaYadaYada kindly started).

I love this band! These vintage/antique carved rings are so gorgeous!
And $40 is the ultimate deal. I'm jealous!

@stracci2000 Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, I’m off to ogle the other thread!

Thanks for the compliment—the engravings are orange blossoms (although the pic quality was so poor I wasn’t expecting any real pattern to the engraving so was pleasantly surprised!). But I have a long way to go to excel at finding goodies at a bargain like you do on a consistent basis. Thanks for taking us all on your adventures!

I attended the 2019 show when they were in town. I got two tickets via their random lottery. It was fun although I didn’t get to hover as much as I would have hoped! They kinda wanted us in and out after we got our four items (2 items allowed per person) appraised. Felt awkward standing around trying to catch snippets of other folks’ items being appraised. It was kind of hard to hear/see. Maybe I could have seen more if I volunteered!

When I heard that the show was coming, I could not get tickets, they sold out fast. But it was suggested to me that I try to volunteer. I called our local PBS station and got in!
The jewelry table was naturally my first choice, but I ended up at the pottery/porcelain table. I had to hold the line at that table and let people up to see the appraisers.
I was there all day, and I chatted with many of the appraisers. I got to hug the Keno brothers, which was a real thrill!

Sounds so much more fun than my experience—I think you “lucked out” by not getting tickets! Rather, a fitting reward for your kindness in volunteering.

I love the Keno twins! They are quite dashing lol. Hard to concentrate on the furniture they are appraising I’m sure! I love it especially when they both talk about a piece at the same time, double trouble for sure ;-)

Ok, c'mon!
You can sleep in the spare bedroom. My jewelry bench is in there, but you won't mind!
I'll teach you silversmithing!

I would love it! Believe me if I ever come into some money, I’m coming out for a visit!

I popped into my fav thrift today.
This huge Japanese Imari charger was waiting for me there. All hand painted!
It was $6.00. Crazy pricing!
It's a whopping 18" across.
I'm not sure how old it is, I'm still researching it.

We did Christmas presents tonight. Here's my lovely Victorian conversion pendant that I accidentally peeked at a few weeks ago.

The paste is so sparkly. It has a slightly creamy hue, so very believable. 20201224_201826.jpg

This is lovely! I love the geometric details, it looks very 1870s, Gothic Revival.

Okay, time for what's in the box!

And one snowflake?

It’s an Edelweiß on the box! So really Austrian! It could be Swarovski, the company was established 1895.

Thank you so much! I thought it was so neat that the box was still there but had no idea what that symbol was!

Nothing wrong with dirty. One of the prettiest rings I have I found at a pawn shop for $500 and it was so filthy I had to take it to a jeweler because my machine couldn’t lift the filth AT ALL. The shank was razor thin and ready to break so I had to get that replaced. It’s probably around a carat but it sure sparkles since it’s clean. I think it must have been worn in the garden and the pig pen! I really am not joking! It was awful. So yes, a loupe is a good idea and look past the gunk!

Loretta, you cant tell us about this ring without including a photo!!!:mrgreen2:

Can you imagine it literally black with gunk under the diamonds? It was....disgusting, and I couldn’t get it off by myself.

I just don't understand the concept of 'never taking a ring off'
I have cleaned rings like that in the past. The crud is like gray cement, completely packed under each stone. Gross!

I walked into a small town thrift store today. I couldn't find anything worthwhile. Until I looked in the jewelry case.
How about a 10k Eastern Star pin with a little OEC? It's about 10 points. It's real white and sparkly!
A steal at 25 cents.
IMG_20201222_202006205.jpg IMG_20201222_202400548.jpg

I also scooped up this sterling and blue topaz pendant for $1.00
IMG_20201222_211241.jpg IMG_20201222_211353.jpg

I removed the chain and the gavel. It was cute, but it had to go!
I considered cutting the pin mechanism off the back to make a pendant. But when I sat down with my jeweler's saw, and looked at this sweet little thing, I had a change of heart.

So now I will wear it as an accent pin. I had it on my T-shirt today!

Yesterday DH brought me to this huge four floor 20,000 square foot antique center. So much stuff it made my head spin! I actually tried on an 80 point brown diamond solitaire, it was fun because I’ve never seen one in person.

Anyways I spotted this and brought it home, not sure if I will keep it or not but the moonstone was just too pretty to leave there. I’m 99% sure those are cab blue sapphires. A bunch of pictures to show the moodiness in different lights:

So pretty! And sapphires!!
Moonstones are cool.
I have a few, but they are more opaque than this one.

So, you all know I collect vintage sewing....things (machines, cabinets, tools, etc). I check craigslist regularly. I pop on today and see (for $150 obo) this grouping of a crappy fake wood craft/sewing cabinet, vintage sewing machine (another straight stitch that had nothing special), and crappy plastic machine. The second picture had a cute little wooden sewing side table/cabinet. I'd never seen one like it and thought it was cute. A few questions were asked and she was mine! It was a long drive like 25min to get her, but for $20 I'm happy! Look at that carving on the back!!! Those top sides flip up (supported w/a swiveling piece of wood). One side has some damage and needs to be re-glued (same w/the center support on the bottom). :)

1609215561026.png

Someone added these spikes to hold thread spools at a later date (you can see where they measured, and there's a worn spot on the drawer casing)

1609215699450.png

One of the sides (here you can see the damage, it's in the back where it needs to be reglued)
1609215741617.png

Open wide!
1609215763573.png

And the front! Those knobs aren't shamrocks, but I think they are pansies :D
