Who has the best prongs?

Of all the online diamond choices, what are your top two for nice slim sturdy prongs? Stock settings, not custom obviously...

I rate Blue Nile toward the bottom.

This is a GREAT thread. I've always wanted to know this, and I think a lot of people would benefit from this. I agree, BN is the worst. JA is better. Where they fit in regard to everyone else, I have no idea.

I think* my setting came with claw prongs and that if you pick a setting that does not come with
claw prongs that you may have to pay a fee to get them. I'm not sure about this though since
mine came with claw prongs.

Is there a good bench conveniently located to you? If so, you could ask them to order a setting from, e.g., Stuller or Unique Settings of NY & shape the standard prongs before they set the stone. Here's an example of how Adam at Old World Diamonds beautified the prongs on Stuller setting #122004 (a PS Stuller favorite):

I find this pretty encouraging. Firstly, the setting looks great. But secondly and mostly because it's at least an available option. I talked to BN about doing it once and they were VERY 'not keen'. I have to say, tho, I think BN slimmed out the prongs of the original setting for Yssie's 4.01ct stone she had set briefly in one of their settings. Perhaps it's something they do for stones over a certain value.

BN's prices have been going up in recent months, and they're no longer the budget option they used to be. So one more reason to make a permanent switch to JA for these sorts of projects.

My whiteflash prongs on my 6 prong studs are quite fine and delicate. They hold in 1.1 and 1.2 carat stones.

I have to say that the prongs on my Vatche setting from GOG are quite lovely. I forgot to request claws, but gladly got them!

Did you ask them to slim the prongs or were the prongs on the 6 prong martini settings slim enough to begin with? Thanks!

I asked them to make it small and sharp. I ask that if every vendor. No other specific directions.
