I’m selling my house and buying an already remodeled one. We’ve had a few weeks of no house projects and I’m already going crazy! I need to work on something... so I thought maybe I’d have this ring made to my taste.

I’d want a yellow OEC instead so I figured finding one would keep me busy for a bit. But I also want to get some quotes before proceeding. I know David Klass is a PS fave but he’s not really responsive. I wanted to see who else is recommended.

Caysie Van Bebber (CVB) makes my rings. She has a great bench and the work is very high quality.

She does have nice stuff. I’ve been eying our her Jovyn solitaire ring forever...

Diamonds by Lauren? They’ve done some fantastic looking cluster rings over the years.
Also I bet Old World Diamonds bench would do a great job, too.
Both would most likely be one stop shopping - don’t know if they’d set a center stone you sourced?
Both Guilded Lane and Sin City seem to do reproduction settings with various benches, but again am unsure about you sourcing the center. Going directly to the benches they all use has its own pros and cons.

Caysie does have beautiful designs.

Love affair diamonds has beautiful settings too, but Erica no longer works with outside stones.

Diamonds by Lauren is also excellent. I believe their policy is only in house stones, but I would check.

This is a bit out of the box, but I'd contact Jonathan Weingarten from August Vintage. I'm not sure if he only works with his own stones, but I've been highly impressed with the designs I've seen from him. Ditto Adam from Old World Diamonds, who *might* also be able to source your stone.

Scalloped halo. A bunch of PSers have earring jackets by IDJ like that, and someone had a ring like that made by IDJ too.

Just keep emailing and calling down the line of all the listed vendors until you find one you click with.

Off topic, but not really.
Is there a thread that has August Vintages/Jon’s custom settings in one place?
I don’t seem to find one if there is. It’d be nice to see?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I didn’t even think of IDJ for this for whatever reason. I just bought a band from them and I really liked it so I’ll just email them!

I don't think there is. I have one from him. He did a great job.

I’d hesitate for me personally with a setting created for me and there was another that had issues with the execution, but I’m sure there are many of his creations that has been executed well I’m glad you had a great experience.
David Klass is one I recommend though he is busy and Amy is out for a couple of weeks, he was seriously Injured last month.

There is jeweler I’m dying to try his IG is CJD_Sako

Hi d&t,
I've been in contact with cjd_sako. He's very responsive and super easy to communicate with.
His workshop is bustling. He does both cast method as well as hand fabricated but more
so specializes in casting. He needs 2 months for hand forging. He prefers instagram and only
does email if you need to attach images. Then he reverts right back to instagram.
Hope this somewhat satisfies your curiosity...

Thanks for the details! His work looks fabulous!
Do you have projects in the works with him right now? I can’t wait to see yours :kiss2:

D&T,
I don't have any projects with him because 2 months for hand fabricated is too long for me.
Im trying to find someone to hand fabricate a permanent home for my emerald cut. After that,
I will be moving straight away into an eternity band. Im doing them one at a time just to suss
things out...don't feel safe committing to 2 projects at once if ive never worked with the fabricator,
if that makes sense...

Off topic - but Sako had a hand in my onyx ring, and that was actually thru DK via TGP. So there’s different avenues.

Beautiful work! I've not asked, and maybe he has had a hand in one of my pieces... or not, but he's a skilled artistic person nonetheless.

I was just looking at his instagram, thought the engraving was stunning.

2 months for hand fabricated is not a long time frame at all. I'd be surprised if you could find someone to guarantee cast in that time frame either.

Wink at High Performance Diamonds would be worth a try.

CVB ID did my asscher and I had zero issues or problems with her, but I would double whatever timeframe she gives you.

Mytal Hannah (someone help me with her correct name)

Thank you, @liaerfbv
I didn't know that! now thanks to you, i do!

I honestly thought you meant two months to even get started.
I’ve got a hand fab product going - and was never given any indication of how long to expect.:confused2:

well, now im utterly confused...
I was told 2 months from when first half of payment is received by hand frabricatior thats when they actually start working on the ring. Then from there its about 2 months time for cdj sako. Do keep in mind im NOT doing (micro)pave, engraving, etc..
it's either going to be a plain solitaire or it will have side baguettes. Thats it!

So according to my understanding of @liaerfbv: 2 months is not a long time at all. In fact she thinks for even casting job one would have a difficult time to get the project done in 2 months...

So correct me if ive mistaken...
are you saying that you've got a project with a hand fabricator and they've NOT given you an estimate time frame?? not even an approximate??

Most jewelry projects I have done - starting from when they received my stone and the first half of my payment, it was usually 2-4 months. Both with local jewelers and the people recommended on PS. That's with the design already finalized - if you have to go over all the details of the design, it could be longer. And for an in-demand maker of hand-forged rings, I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was even longer.

If you want a ring fast, you need to pick a stock setting that will fit your stone and can be shipped quickly to the jeweler. If you are going custom... I suppose you might be able to pay more to rush it but the jeweler will have to balance that against the risk of pissing off their other clients who have been waiting already and will now have to wait longer.

If I’m understanding you correctly - you’ve paid 50% deposit to “hold” your place in production time slot. That may happen when someone gets super busy and they have to limit taking on jobs at one time /possibly weed out jobs that the customer can’t/won’t wait, find out who will pay for the pleasure of doing business with them? I’m assuming.

I don’t think that’s what @liaerfbv meant. Guaranteed was said. I’ve had two cast projects done with DK within past couple years that I’m positive were done well within 8 weeks including design/CAD time. Having anyone guarantee a time period is tricky- it’s asking for trouble.

On my current project - I am not in direct contact with the hand fabricator, but no it was never answered. And just as luck has it, I found out just today what the time frame is and it is more than acceptable!

Last but not least and out of curiosity, why would Sako be ones top choice for a plain solitaire, maybe baguettes with no engraving? I’m not saying it’s a bad choice - but doesn’t seem to fit in the ‘like and kind’ of what he posts?
What he excels at?

I've been away a few months. I used DK to make my wife's ring and it turned out great! I found calling and talking with Amy via phone & text did much to keep my project moving along, as opposed to relying on email communications only.

I wasn't aware Amy is out. Vacation, or something else?

Also, what happened to David? I hadn't heard this. :(2

I haven't used him, nor do we own any of his work. Looking at pictures, etc I do like his work. However, a thread cropped up a few months back that left a sour taste in my mouth. You'd think the guy would be more tactful on his own website where he is trying to ATTRACT new business.

I imagine if there was a problem and he took that pompous attitude with me, I'd have to factor in a plane ticket, and some bail money from the ass whippin' I'd lay down on him. Probably make him out of budget. :mrgreen2:
