short version: Who would you recommend I work with to source a large Emerald cut (3+ cw) and design a simple 3-5 stone platinum ring?

Background: 20ish years ago (I can't believe ya'll are still here!), thanks to PriceScope, my spouse and I (and our jeweler) designed a killer (not Emerald cut) ring. Sadly, a few years back, it was stolen. We're finally getting around to replacing it. I'm pretty clear about what I want and it's a simple elegant design, but I will be picky about that center stone.

**Looking for someone who is willing to work closely with me on the sourcing of the center stone/call in a lot of options, do video, and consult and advise me.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

I would say Good Old Gold to source the stone, but be aware you may have to put deposits down to call in "a lot" of options. What kind of 3 stone setting do you want? Pave? Hand forged or cast? That will depend who I would use for the setting.

I'm so sorry your ring was stolen. It makes me so angry that other people feel entitled to things that are not theirs.:angryfire:

I would suggest Good Old Gold to work with for a large Emerald cut. They do videos, bring in stones and advise on cuts. As well as
asets.

For the setting I would suggest Victor Canera or Steven Kirsch.

Edit...there is also Leon Mege if you can deal with him (he works fine for some people and not so much
for others).

Thanks very much for the input @tyty333 and @liaerfbv. I like Leon Mege's settings very much. I wrote to him with my stone parameters and he sent me back a couple of options. I don't want to waste his time and start talking with him about other stone options unless I'm pretty sure I'm going to work with him, which is why I'm asking about for recommendations here. I'm cool with paying a deposit for stone sourcing. It's been twenty plus years so I'm out of the loop, but I'm looking for something along these lines:

Good Old Gold is a great option. I would also suggest ID Jewelry. Yekutiel and team at IDJ are very knowledgeable, patient, and has picked some beauties (he had this amazing 5 carat asscher that someone picked up on PS).

GOG/IDJ for the stone.
CvB/VC/DK for hand forged settings...

Selvaymar- what a kewl title thread!!
I'm a true emerald cut lover- so I saw the title and I'm thinking of some Marvel Superhero- Emerald Cut Woman!!
She can blind her adversaries with unbelievably strong flashes of light:)

I am another EC lover. My suggestion is that you start with James Allen, because they have the largest selection of videos of stones of anyone online. That way you can narrow it down to 1 or 2, and then you can have GOG or IDJ call them in (as most of their stones are also available wholesale to jewelers) for you and evaluate them further. I don't have time to look right now, but you take a look and then post some here for comments and we can help you narrow them down.

I strongly prefer Victor or Steven Kirsch for the type setting you are thinking of.

I'm a multi-transaction customer and supporter of Good Old Gold.

After reading PS for 12 years I'd boycott Leon Mege.
Many women have posted how he treated them horribly.

I had a very pleasant experience with Leon - twice. I saw a couple of his step cut rings while I was there, they were gorgeous (asschers). And he called stones in for me. If I had them back in 24 hrs there was no charge as I recall.

I thought VC does not work with outside stones? Was I wrong?

Look at Leon's three and five stone step cut rings. Look at the other vendors mentioned here and elsewhere. Is there a substantive difference for you? For me there is as I think this is a style where he really excels, but you have to decide for yourself. Maybe there's another vendor who you'll find you prefer. If it's important for you to get a Leon setting, then you'll have to work with him until you find a stone you love. If it's not important to you, you could work with a vendor like GOG that will send you more detail about the stones that will make it easier to pick one, and then have one of the other ringmakers who work with outside stones complete the ring. I think this is the main decision right now.

For the kind of setting and center stone that you are thinking of, I would recommend Steven Kirsch as all the examples I've seen of his 3 and 5 stone settings for step cut center stones have been beautiful. Bonus is that he has insurance for setting customers' stones so you can buy the center stone elsewhere and have him make the setting. I think SK used to work with Leon Mege before he set up his own shop.

Talk to the vendors recommended above and see who you click with.

For my EC, I went with IDJ. Yekutiel has a great eye for stepcuts. I've also seen beautiful asschers and ECs from IDJ posted by ilikeshiny, BPC and Frankiextah. I've never had to pay a deposit for him to provide a video and images. I would reckon it could be possible if you have him work up a dozen stones lolol.

Second @kgizo

It should be interesting to try on a ready-made, obviously fine five-stone, since one happens to be 'ready to wear'.

Then, these three are fun. Too small ? .9 - 2.14 WWW - .9 WWW (pair of sides)

Both AoP & Concepts have a knack for step cuts in the deepest sense. I merely dab ...

Thinking out loud: ring size makes a difference for the choice between three & five - stone models, and what shapes the sides can be; middle of the road sizes should work either way.

OMG... I am drooling over that Emerald cut 5 stoner!!!!!!! Good luck with finding your dream stone:appl: and show us pics when you are done!

I tried this on last week at the NY JAWS and it was beautiful!!:love::love: I still haven't done my full write-up of the show with pics but here's one ;)2

I got to see the ring too! This ring is stunning and in typical Leon fashion, the proportions and flow are perfect.

Thanks for posting that pic, @ac117. May I ask - what size is your finger?

I have also been a long term customer of GOG, but all my great experience was primarily from Jonathan, and he is no longer at GOG. So I cannot give the same recommendation that I used to.

Are you looking for a modern day cut or an antique stone.

I really appreciate all the input. I've considered all of your responses and I do find myself especially drawn to Leon's work over the others. Also, I couldn't resist doing a search and found this that interested me. There's no Asset posted. Any thoughts?
