Hello eveyone. My name is Steven, and I have been "lurking" on this site for a few weeks now. First, I would like to commend everyone here for their intelligence and willingness to share their diamond knowledge.......my personal diamond knowledge has grown by leaps and bounds over the last few weeks!! That being said......

I have decided to buy a pair of earrings for my girlfriend from whiteflash. I think she might want to upgrade at some point (right ladies

), so I am buying the stones loose and having whiteflash put them in a 3-prong martini setting. I would very much appreciate if you guys could give me your opinions on the stones that Leslie (from whiteflash) kindly recommended (other stone recommendations would be most welcomed)

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!!

I''d get the G SI1s because they''re a better color and they''re bigger than the H VS2s. Plus they''re a little cheaper, too! The magnified pictures look very clean so they''re probably totally eyeclean, but I would ask just to make sure.

Either way, they''re going to be a gorgeous pair of earrings! I have WF earrings in a similar size and I love them! (Mine are in the handmade bezel setting, but I love the martini settings, too, and that''s the way to go for upgrading!)

Hey Steven love a guy that comes here and does his homework. These are both great choices, for earrings I like a bit of a bigger table so I vote for the G's. Can't go wrong either way. You're going to knock her socks off.

Wow! Two very good options. I would personally go for the G''s because I more color-sensitive than clarity-sensitive, but that''s a personal call. You are very smart to go for the upgrade-able stones. I''m sure she will appreciate it!

I''d go for the G because they are bigger and cheaper. They''ll be gorgeous.

What about waiting for something along the lines of ACA .28 F VS2 for the same price? If time is on my side, would that be worth the wait. Or are those bigger .327 Gs SI1s still the way to go!?

Thanks!!

I would still choose the G pair over the H or F.

I''d still go for the Gs for sure. Small size differences in lower carat weight diamonds are very noticeable and you almost definitely won''t notice the difference in color. You would most likely notice the difference in size, though.

Ditto! I would also pick the Gs over a smaller pair of F, VS2. G is a very safe color -- they should be gorgeous.

Lesley put the Gs on hold for me. I am actually going on a "tour" of whiteflash''s facility on Friday. Think that should be very cool. Can meet some of these awesome whiteflash people that I''ve been reading about!!

By the way, can my girlfriend wear her earrings in the shower, swimming pool, while working out, etc?? They will be set in white gold. Have heard that sometimes white gold can not be worn in all situations???

Thanks.

I would encourage you to go down a bit in color and get a bigger diameter. J, or even K, will work fine for earrings when the cut is superb. You notice color primarily by looking through the side of a diamond, not the top, so a color that would be noticable in a diamond ring will not be noticable in an earring. You just don''t look at earrings though the side. And every little increase in diameter is noticable in small stones.

I am the owner of 0.85 tcw J SI1s, and couldn''t be happier with the combo of color, size and price. I posted pictures here showing the color from the top and side compared to my 1.5 F VS2.

Steven - Upkeep will be easier if the earrings are set in platinum rather than white gold. Good luck. Going to Whiteflash should be amazing.

FYI:

Lesley said the certified ACAs start at .30. So there are no .25 F VS2s out there. Perhaps they can do that for a more established customer...not sure.

Anyway, the idea that size is more important in smaller stones does make sense!! Thanks for all the info!

If I can figure out how to post pictures, I will definitely put some pics of the earrings on here!

Best wishes,

Welcome,

Those earrings will be DReaMy!

Earrings are on the way. I think my girl will be very happy!!

Lesley (from whiteflash) has been a pleasure during this process. I highly recommend her to anyone. Thanks to all of you for your excellent suggestions........

Best,

Steven G.

I can''t wait to see them - I hope you post pics.

I''m considering buying some upgradeable WF studs to replace my poorly cut 1.02 tcw studs that I bought with my first commission check.

Steven I am jealous that you get to go to WF and pick the earrings! How cool!!
You asked about wearing WG settings in different situtions. From what I have read chlorine is damaging to white gold. I personally avoid wearing white gold (or any jewelry) when swimming, but I''ve done in once in a blue moon and nothing bad has happened. I also avoid wearing any jewelry in the shower because it collects soap scum, plus the risk (however small) of losing it down the drain. So, I would recommend for her to put in her earrings after showering in the a.m. and also take them off before bed, because believe it or not wearing your jewelry to bed causes more wear and tear!
