They both look great!

For the second diamond can someone comment if there would be any negative affects given all the inclusions: Crystal, Needle and Feather seem to be in the same spot around the table? That part kind of worries me.

Now I''m perhaps paranoid, but could it be possible that the polish is not ideal because of the inclusions?

I wish I knew lol. Can anyone else give some insight?

I can't forsee any negative on that. It just happened that the piece of rough had those inclusions there. Keep in mind also, that we have no idea from the plot what the depth of the inclusions are--they might be separated vertically. With VS2 clarity, I don't see any reason to worry, but if it would make you feel more comfortable, ask your WF rep. Everything with this diamond looks very good. The numbers on the BN diamond are good, as well, we just don't have photos, IS or ASET availble to judge more. With the numbers and an AGS0 rating, it certainly has the pedigree to be a nice stone.

Internal inclusions don't affect the polish grade.

Of course, Whiteflash will answer your questions honestly.

Don''t say that too fast.
More than once, I saw inclusions with my naked eye in VS2 diamonds.

Yes, eye visible inclusions in VS2 clarity is rare, but does occur, especially for those with excellent eyesight. I took the question to mean negative effects as far as durability or light performance--I see where the OP could have meant eye-clean, as well. The only way to know if the stone is eye-clean is to ask WF.

I kinda like the first one better.

OK, but we don''t know about its optical symmetry (even if paper sounds better).

Is the Polish not being Ideal a bad thing?

Both Diamonds are around the $3100US price.

No, not at all. It''s just one step down. You could not tell the difference if your life depended on it. Really.

Both look great, and chances are the first would be gorgeous. But if you want to play it safe, stick with two where you have all the info.

Thanks for all the info everyone. I''ll get back on what I decided with soon.

Oh Just an update as well. I did speak with WF and they did advise it is "eye clean"......

They mentioned that the reason it did not get an Ideal Polish Grade is because the Pavillion % was a bit large or something?

Cheers,
Drew

Hi Everyone,

Elle: I am taking your "chance" advice :)

So I decided on #2 http://www.bluenile.ca/round-diamond-1-carat-or-less-ideal-cut-f-colour-vs2-clarity_LD01400628?filter_id=1.

with setting: http://www.bluenile.ca/diamond-ring-platinum_4504?metal_filter=platinum&setting_filter=solitaire&show_all_pages=0&set_shape=

Thanks again everyone for your help. Though I have few more question.

****After I receive the ring would an appraisal give me a better idea on the quality of the diamond? Is some sort of IS possible after it has been set? What information does an appraiser give me in helping me decide whether I would be keeping the ring or not? Is it even worth to get it appraised? ****

Thanks!!!!!!!
Drew

I think you mean #1?

I think it's worth the chance!

As far as an appraisal goes, I do think it would be a good idea to get one. However, you will get the most accurate if the diamond has not been set yet, loose is easier to work with. Is there any chance you could have it sent to an appraiser, and then sent back to BN, assuming it gets the OK? If not, a stone can be looked at after setting, but it's a bit more difficult to work with, but it can be done. And yes, you can use an Idealscope on a set diamond.

Either way, you want an independant appraisal, not only to let you know the diamond is a good deal, and the one you ordered, but also for insurance purposes. The more thorough the write up on the diamond, the easier it will be for you to get a true "like kind" from the insurance company, should you need to replace it. So definitely get one.

And you're very welcome! It's going to be a pretty ring.

Hi Ellen,

It didn''t seem that BN sends Diamonds out for appraisal first. So no biggy I''ll just get it Appraised here in Toronto. Good thing they do have the 30 day return policy. I''ll just have to take a bit of a hit on the shipping charges and appraisal fee. I guess "chance" comes with possible extra cost and risk. :)

I''ll keep you all posted on how things go and post pictures up shortly after I receive it.

Everyone here has been wonderful.

I also want to give a shout out to WF, we couldn''t get things to work (my budget problem) but their service is crazy a$$ good! Kudos to all of them as well..... -.-

Hi Again,

Could someone comment on what "Girdle: Faceted, 1.5% to 3.9%" for the below means. I was reading how it affects the spread etc, however don''t quite understand what it means. Does that mean due to the med - think girdle the 0.76ct is actually looking smaller? If so how much smaller?

It''s facing up just fine! A .75 will face up around 5.8, yours is 5.9! No problems.

And I look at so many posts per day, sometimes I forget what is where, so I forgot about this coming from BN. Sorry about that, but I think it will be fine anyway. Do let us know how it all turns out!

The last I had heard, this was in question, with BN saying no they didn''t. So I thought maybe they didn''t anymore, even though they had in the past. Now it seems they still do. So I just wanted to give you a heads up.

Thanks again, everyone, for the great discussion.

For those who''ve been following this and were wondering how things have played out, I''m right now looking at some ASET/IS shots from Whiteflash and they look pretty good to me. As I''m clearly no expert, any help would be appreciated in this thread.

For anyone who was curious, at least one of the PS-friendly vendors I contacted was able to pull down the exact same diamond listed on Blue Nile. In the end, Whiteflash presented me with two diamonds that met my narrow criteria. Once I told them which diamond I preferred, they had it in the office within 24 hours.

Just as a point of comparison, though, the diamond actually was less expensive through BN than through the PS vendor who had access to it, but only by a couple hundred dollars. Not enough, IMHO, to make up for the customer service.

Interestingly enough, I received an e-mail from a different SA at BN yesterday, stating that they were sorry for the misinformation and would be able to ship to an appraiser. By the time BN had their story straight, WF had already ordered the diamond.

Lessons learned:

1. Blue Nile will ship to an appraiser after you ask 4 times.

2. Diamonds listed on BN are available for purchase elsewhere if you ask the right people.

3. Customer service at Whiteflash is top-notch!

Stone-cold11: Great info...That helped clear things up.

Ellen: I was a bit over excited to hurry up and get the ring :).......I have an appointment with an Independent appraiser next week here in Toronto. I''ll keep that in mind for next time though. I''ll let you know how it all goes.

No problem! I just wanted you to be aware that they do indeed send stones out. And not only for you, but others who might read the thread and come to the wrong conclusion based on what had been said.

Good luck!
