Which Whiteflash 2 carat stone would you choose/why? Help!

Which stone would you choose? The first stone has an inclusion slightly visible to the naked eye when turned on it's side but has more fire. Also, it's been bought many times over and returned for different reasons. The second stone, new on the market as far as I can tell, is eye clean with a little less fire. I don't have enough experience to make a choice. Personally, I LOVE fire in a ring but having an inclusion visible to me would bother me. Would you be able to tell a difference in the fire of these two stones if side by side and in the same light? Comments needed and appreciated.

Re: Which Whiteflash 2 carat stone would you choose/why? He

Have you seen both in person? Or are you relying on WF's description?

Either way, the visible inclusion (assuming it is only visible from the side) would not bother me. I'd go for the most "fire" face up in general, but I don't really like the hearts image in either one...

Re: Which Whiteflash 2 carat stone would you choose/why? He

Wow, did Whiteflash tell you second stone has less fire?
Frankly, I've bought a 2.123ct I-SI1 and saw nothing, but when I got used to the diamond, I began to notice clarity flaws with the naked eye under certain lighting.
When buying bigger than 2ct, VS clarity is safer, but that's only my point of view.
The 2.044 is to die for, nobody will see an inclusion when you wear it, but if you search the inclusion while the stone doesn't move and is on a fix support, you might find it. But that's it. It was the most beautiful diamond I saw at WF together with the 7.50 (even better looking than the 2.123 I've bought).

Re: Which Whiteflash 2 carat stone would you choose/why? He

I'd choose the one that is eye clean from all directions, unless you are planning a setting that would completely hide the side view. I look at my diamond from the side all the time, so that is an absolute requirement for me. I'm sure both stones are plenty firey, but I really can't answer you last question without seeing them in person.

Re: Which Whiteflash 2 carat stone would you choose/why? He

are you sure that the other one is eye-clean?

it's up to you if an inclusion that is barely visible from the side view will bother you.

perhaps ask WF which one is a better choice?

Re: Which Whiteflash 2 carat stone would you choose/why? He

I feel I would buy the 2.044ct because:
~ I saw it and it's a fire ball. Really.
~ The other stone is also SI1 (=> I'll detect impurities with the naked eye now or later) and it is deeper (=> less spread).
~ The 2.044ct is slightly painted, it's a collector item: WF doesn't cut this way anymore, but these diamonds are incredible beauties.

Now, would you dare to ask for a better discount because of the non eye clean SI1?
I know this is exceptional and I never did it, but this stone went from hand to hand, and if it's a great bargain perhaps you will keep it?

Re: Which Whiteflash 2 carat stone would you choose/why? He

If it can make you feel better with SI1: Lieve who works with Paul at Infinity can even spot VS1 inclusions with her naked eye.
So just think no diamond is really clean, in such big diamonds, SI1's ... are SI1's, and to the trained eye, most of them are visible if people are allowed to view under different lighting conditions.
Sometimes it's better to have one very small spot in a SI diamond than no visible spot but cloudiness that makes the diamond look dull like a poor cut would do.

Re: Which Whiteflash 2 carat stone would you choose/why? He

The rep at WF did say the 2.017 was eye clean and a little less fire. He said he'd pick the first stone but then later in the conversation he said he liked the second one so I'm guessing it's a toss up. I haven't seen either in person and I know I can trade it back if I don't like it when I see it. QueenMum you said you could see the inclusion so you passed on this stone. I don't have the funds to upgrade to a VS1. Seems to take a pretty big jump in price if you do. I'm trying to stay under 19k for the stone and am certain I want a 2 carat. I'm a little concerned that the first stone has had several owners. Makes me think that the stone is not that ideal or someone would have not parted with it. Also when a stone is returned for whatever reason, does WF do anything to it before they restock it (besides polish) that would jeopardize the original certificate integrity?

By clicking on this link, you will be able to compare my former 2.123ct 'slightly painted' I-SI1 diamond to the non painted 1.26ct N-VVS1 diamond.
Hope it helps!

Re: Which Whiteflash 2 carat stone would you choose/why? He

Lisa,

When I was in Houston the first time, Brian at WF did show me 5 diamonds.
I picked 2, the 2.044 and the 2.123, both I-SI1 slightly painted.
The 3 other diamonds I rejected were not painted and H color.
The 2.044 was the best looking one, even it was smaller than the 2.123.
After playing with both stones for a while, I could see an inclusion in the 2.044.
But really, after playing for a while, and under strong lighting.
It's something nobody will notice in normal wearing conditions, but I understand your concern, I'm also anal about clarity.
If you are smarter than me, you would buy this diamond.
If you have a sharp eye, no 2ct SI1 diamond will stay eye clean for years.
Once you know where the *** is located, you'll find it back. :)

Wow! Those are both knock outs! Depending on the angle of the pic, they both look firey!

Certificate is of October 2009, ask if somebody else owned this diamond between that date and today.
I don't think so.

That's reassuring to know that someone actually (you) saw this stone and can attest to it's beauty. Does it matter that it has been restocked?

Okay, I'll ask him. He is going to send me a picture of the two side by side if that helps.

The new paperwork is quite recent, just ask WF if somebody owned the stone since then.
But even then, WF will confirm you that the stone hasn't been damaged.
They wouldn't sell you a diamond that has a chip or a scratch, WF has a good reputation here.

If there was ever a thread that brought out the poacher in me it's this one.... :Up_to_something:

I was having some serious thoughts about that 2.04.......

Hey Lisa, we don't have access to your gmail account.
We can't see anything!
Save the picture on your computer, then upload it in a post.

It means that if you hadn't already put a hold on that stone I was having thoughts of doing something unethical, i. e. poaching your diamond. Queenmum mentioned the extreme fire and painted girdle. I have 2 Eightstar diamonds, which are known for having painted girdles, and they're my favorite cut out of all the super-ideals I own. I'm betting that 2.04 is a fantastic stone.

Thanks tyty, I'm trying! :wavey: It would be hard to enjoy my bling if I got blown up, wouldn't it? :o

Now where's that smiley of me slinking off into a corner for being Bad Ande again...

Re: Which Whiteflash 2 carat stone would you choose/why? He

I'm going with the stone on the right! Thanks QueenMum and all. I'll be holding it in my hands tomorrow! :appl: :appl:

Re: Which Whiteflash 2 carat stone would you choose/why? He

I think you made the right decision.

Andelain, the 2.044 is painted but much lighter than an EightStar.
I've owned a 2.08ct EightStar too, and it's a different beast.

Re: Which Whiteflash 2 carat stone would you choose/why? He

I'm thrilled for you lisa (see other post)...you know as I look at the pictures again it looks a fair amount larger
than the one on the left. I didnt see what the measurements are. Are they that far off or is it the contrast in
the pattern of the left stone which looks a little darker vs the right stone which looks whiter?

Or...does it have to do with the painting? I dont know how painting affects the look of the stone.

Re: Which Whiteflash 2 carat stone would you choose/why? He

The 2.044 looks much bigger and brighter, really!

So I "done good"?! :twirl: :twirl: :twirl:

tyty, one effect of painting is increased brilliance out to the edge of the stone. That can increase the percieved size.

Queenmum, true that Eightstars have even more painting, but this beauty has enough to give the effect that I love. As soon as I saw the IS image I pulled out my scope and looked at my 1.57 again and just drooled at the 2.04. :cheeky: :cheeky: :cheeky:

Re: Which Whiteflash 2 carat stone would you choose/why? He

Yes, very good.
The 2.044 is only slightly painted, not as heavy as the example posted in the link above.
I saw it, and it's a gorgeous stone.
