Looking at your map of the US, I can see that most of our travel has been along the eastern seaboard. When it was too expensive to fly for our family of four, we did a road trip  (brave souls that we were). We chose two weeks in the summer (last week of July and the first week of August) for our 'pool- hopping'. To keep the kids happy, that's what my husband called it at the time.

We made no reservations and stayed at Holiday Inns or Howard Johnsons - rooms were clean and adequate and their restaurants were good enough to satisfy all of us. Definitely, not a splurge, but we had one 'fine dining experience' per trip.

Those were good days except for the arguing between our daughter and son who were pre-teens at the time :wall:

Games of Hangman began as we pulled out of our driveway 8) There were no movies or computer games back then so the radio was the only entertainment. We each had a day when our music was favoured :nono: .Some of those days were very long.

Only Texas on a business trip.

Hoping to visit LA in 2016.

DK :))

I live in PA and I have been to:

Maine
New Hampshire
Vermont
Massachussetts
Rhode Iskand
NY
Connecticut
NJ
Maryland
Delaware
Washington D.C.
Virginia
North Carolina

New York
New Jersey
Connecticut
Massachusetts
Texas
Florida
North Carolina
California
Georgia
Pennsylvania
Missouri
Illinois
(Not a state but including it anyway) Washington, D.C.

Edited to include: Arizona, Nevada and Maryland

Not many.

Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota, Missouri, Arizona, Texas, Florida. And really...Missouri, we drove through on our way to Texas, and then again on our way to Arizona, and I went to a baseball game there. Nebraska..sometimes I've been to a Dr. there and have shopped there b/c it's right across the river from the "city". South Dakota-shopping in Sioux Falls a couple times and to the races at Hussett's several times. Drove thru New Mexico, Kansas and Oklahoma. We stopped for gas in Tucumcari NM and the gas station had like 50 pumps, and I couldn't figure out how to work it..so this voice came over a speaker and I was dying laughing "I'm from IOWA! We don't HAVE this stuff! What do I do??" Kansas we stopped for gas on the way home from Arizona and I found a Best of Culture Club cassette (many moons ago this was) and I totally rocked out in my little 1998 green Neon all the way home.

Not much of a roamer, me.

ohhh wait, Nevada. We spent a week in Vegas in 2003.

Lots!

I've been to:

Alaska
Washington
California
Nevada
New Mexico
Arizona
Wyoming
Montana
Idaho
Utah
Nebraska
Iowa
Illinois
Indiana
Ohio
Pennsylvania
New York
Tennessee
South Carolina
North Carolina
Georgia

I think that's it....I did the map but can't remember how to post the picture (and I'm tired). The entire west coast is filled in and where Kenny has a hole I have filled in. :D

Minnesota and Michigan were only the airports, so I probably shouldn't count those. Arizona is also a bit of a cheat because I only went to the AZ side of the Hoover Dam.

I may have forgotten some I just drove through.

Oh, and I guess TECHNICALLY Utah because I've been to the four corners and went "wheee I'm standing in four states at once!" but only, like, a tiny corner of Utah.

edit: why didn't I get a map? here's the list:

Arizona, California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, New York. Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, West Virginia.

Not so many, but mostly on the east coast. I didn't include the Carolinas, though we had to have driven through them to get further south. My thought was if Ii don't remember it at all, then we probably didn't spend any time there off the road. I also didn't include states where I've only had a layover in an airport. If I didn't step outside, it doesn't count, either.

Many of them. I can't contemplate the specifics, because I'm still mentally scarred by the road trip. Yup, it was a road trip. My family flew to NYC, hooked up with relatives, crammed what felt like 39 people and their luggage into a car with broken aircon and toured the US over many, many weeks in a heatwave that made headline news.

I think we covered maybe 8 or 9 states? I was around 12 at the time.

As an adult, I've only been to NY, which I love more than I can express. It's horribly expensive to get there from where I live, but I really do love to visit.

Can you tell I don't like the cold?

In the USA I've been to:

alaska, arizona, california, colorado, connecticut, delaware, district of columbia, florida, georgia, louisiana, maine, maryland, massachusetts, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, north carolina, pennsylvania, rhode island, south carolina, tennessee, texas, vermont, virginia and washington.

Tried to show it on the map but couldn't make it work.

None.

Been to Canada though, does that count?

Most of the states except the northwest central area and extreme northeast.

   Jennifer, you make me laugh all the time!

I've been to more states than I realized -- but DH out-travels me in the U.S., while I've seen more of Europe than he has & he grew up there.

;)) I'm only able to laugh about that one now, almost thirty years later...and even then, it's through slightly gritted teeth.

I forgot Hawaii.

I would give my right arm to go to Hawaii. To me, living in Scotland, it sounds like the most exotic place on earth.

Not many.

Oh me too. Do you ever watch that show Hawaii Life? It is about house hunting in Hawaii and you get to see all different places there at all the different islands. Very enjoyable. There was also another hawaii show on HGTV but I cannot remember the name of it right now that showed a more rough and tough hawaii living. It was very cool and made me rethink my wanting to move there lol.

No, I don't think we can get these shows here. Probably not a bad thing, because otherwise I would be pestering DH to relocate. I have a bad habit of going somewhere on vacation and immediately wanting to move there. At the moment, we're looking at property on the Outer Hebrides. Hawaii would at least be warm, though.

Haha I do the very same thing. Good luck with your home search. The Outer Hebrides islands look lovely.

I have been to most of the states in the continental US...exceptions are the NE states above New York and WA & Oregon...my parents loved to travel when we were kids...I seen alot and remember alot of it :appl: I have traveled as an adult as well, but mostly on the eastern seaboard and midwest states...

All except for Virginia, West Virginia South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia.

Live in Washington state.

Hawaii: Spent something like 4 days in Hawaii when I was about 8 years old.

California: 3 days at Disneyland, 2 days helping DH's mother move (but I spent 18+ hours each day loading & unloading boxes and the rest collapsed in agony)

Oregon: Visited twice. Both for two days. One was a convention and one was a competition and I didn't set foot out of the hotel for either.

South Dakota: Spent five days there sleeping on the floor of my great-grandmother's "retirement community" apartment with my grandmother and aunt. We were in the very south-east corner (Elk Point) far away from anything that is the usual tourist stuff. We cleaned. We cooked. We cleaned. We did her grocery shopping. We cleaned. We visited a corn field with a statue of a pilot. We cleaned.

Technically been in (notice the pointy little part of South Dakota and how it lines up with Iowa and Nebraska):

Minnesota: Brief stop at the airport just long enough to run from one plane to the other on the way to South Dakota

Iowa: During the visit to South Dakota, the closest actual store was in Iowa so we did the grocery shopping there.

Nebraska: Same trip to South Dakota. Had to stop at a pharmacy or something. Apparently it was just over the border into Nebraska.

That is the extent of my travels. I've never been to Canada (despite having spent the first 19 years of my life about 3 hours away). Don't have a passport.
Would love to change this some day!

ETA:
Trying to post map...
ETA2: Trying again...

ETA 3: Forget the map!

ETA 4: Not giving up that easily!

ETA 5: WOOOHOOOOO!!!! I got the map to post!!!

I've been to Hawaii twice. First time was to Oahu and I HATED it. Way to urban for me. Too much commercialization, and you could see the damage we were causing to the environment. It was just sad.

Second time was a few years ago for our (belated) honeymoon. We went to Kauai. ADORED IT. Wanted to move there in a serious way. So wonderful.

I've been wanting to go to the Greek Islands now THAT sounds like paradise to me. Although there are some islands in Fiji I also want to visit and some off the coast of Australia. I like Islands. And warmth. And the ocean.

Having grown up in an USAF family afforded the opportunity, plus I was pretty mobile as a young adult. I loved it, such an adventure.
