I hope you are just trying to compare the cuts and see what people will say and are not actually interested in either diamond....they are not reserved and lurkers can and will snatch up diamonds from the people who post about them :blackeye: ...it's happened before.

Saying that... I would go for the Jubilee for size, but I must admit I like the look of that Square H&A!

Whic one do you like?

I like the the jubilee better. Its a matter taste alone but i prefer the outline shape and the facet design.

Have you seen either cut in person, OP? Particularly next to a H&A round brilliant? Both look like a RB (IMO) from a distance of about 5 feet, particularly in settings that cover the corners (and make them look more round), esp the Jubilee which has that 3 sided corner.

If going for a square, I'd go for a chunkier square cushion, like the AVC, so it will look different than a RB from a distance!

I have to disagree-I have a square H&A and to me it looks very much square and not like a round. Have you checked with GOG that both are eye-clean? If you don't have a chance to look at them in person I would watch some videos comparing the two cuts to help you decide.

here is a pic of my square H&A-it is a 1.108 ct G VS2 for reference.

I was looking at Jubiliee, Square H&A and Princess of Hearts. I think, but am not sure, Jubilee is now discontinued. In any case, I am sure GOG has videos comparing all 3 of those diamonds up on vimeo, and that their staff can point you to them. Ultimately I ruled out jubilee as I felt it was more crushed than the broad strokes I desired. I then couldn't decide between POH and Square H&A.. and decided shape was the biggest difference, and went with Square H&A (more square than the tapered corners).

One thing to be aware of is the Square H&A is extremely deep (74% depth.. I don't remember what jubilees were). So for $ for money, they are very expensive (they essentially face up 10% smaller than a regular cushion brilliant.. e.g. you buy 10% more carat for same "facing up"). I was OK with that since they fit specs my girlfriend wanted (very square, very brilliant) and what I wanted (no princess or radiant).

Alternatives I would have considered would be a 8-main cushion brilliant (if you have time to source them).. non-branded...cheaper.. optics can be similar if you find a good one.. but you will need a few months to source (unless you get lucky). Troy at Liberty Diamonds has something like a lucida (he calls it signature cushion brilliant) that looked phenomenal.. but he didn't have any < 1.5 carat at the time I saw him. If I was considering 1 carat, his cushion brilliant "signature" would have been an extremely strong contender to the square cushion H&A... seemed very brilliant, was squarish and cheaper.

I know I didn't really answer your question on Jubilee.. but ultimately I would want to know $/carat, crushed vs. broad flashes fire, and whether its still cut (if its relevant at all to you), and shape.

Deia: I am actually considering either 1 but could not decide.
Antelope1: Thank you for the advise. I am buying online from out of US so i have never seen both cuts in real life.
Takingtheplunge: Thank you
slg47: Thank you for the pic. Its gorgeous!
Realtanu: Thank you for the advice. I really should do more reseach or settle for a RB. :P

for the price you're talking about, i would personally do this:

or maybe even the slightly bigger e/si2 if it was eye clean.

but that's my taste -- chunky and sparkly rather than "brilliant." there's lots of videos that compare them. but it you want a unique, non-RB looking stone, the AVC is awesome. i just bought one! they are amazing. you can ask them to put all 3 of them together and make a video for you.

one piece of advice -- call GOG rather than email, they are much more responsive by phone. (maybe it's a sign of seriousness?)

We usually have emails answred within 24 hours of a business day (we are closed on Sunday's/Monday's, so email's sent Saturday may not be answered till Tuesday) unless there is an internal issue with our servers or connection to the web (one of our staff members did have this issue last week but it is resolved).

If you send an email and it is not answered within 24 hours then call. There are times folks emails get filtered for one reason or another and we're taking steps to help ensure that happens less in the future but take these steps in the meantime. You are always welcome to call of course but we are pretty tight on answering email. Hope that helps and that we can be of further assistance if you have any other questions.

Kind regards,

I had put that diamond on hold and it is back enroute to GOG. I shipped it to them last week, but the USPS has screwed it up and they have yet to receive it. This diamond is close to your price range and is bigger than the square H&A you are considering, albeit with color range closer to the Jubilee. The diamond I ended up purchasing was much more expensive (I went with an F/VS2). I'm not sure if GOG has it planned for someone else etc. but it provides for a more apples-to-apples jubilee/square H&A comparison.

Separately, I have found GOG to be excellent with respect to email. Most vendors that folks love on PS tend to be pretty good with use of Internet, with GOG being up there on the top (how many vendors put out videos, take multiple photos for you, etc.). Generally they responded to me within a day or two.

I'm completely biased as I have a beautiful POH, but I'd go with the square if I couldn't choose. However, now that I saw the square cushion on its way back to GOG from realtanu, I might choose that one.... What a wonderful dilemma. :appl:

My preference is based on my inexplicable love for the square shape (although I prefer the corners trimmed and don't like princess shapes). Nothing but subjective, I'm afraid. With that said, the color of the square looks like it might be a bit warm for some tastes. What is the color?
