Which stone would you buy: 1.58 ct F VS2 or 1.72 D SI1?

I have a difficult time choosing between these two diamonds and would very much appreciate any suggestions:

Their costs are the same and both are excellent cut.

The trade off is 0.3mm bigger and 2 color grades higher for one clarity grade lower.

Please let me know which one you would buy and why?

They both score a respectable 0.7 on the HCA, so that's a good start. Unfortunately BN doesn't provide idealscope images, so this is as much info as you are likely to get to make a decision.

They both have strong blue fluorescence, and although the chances of the fluor being accompanied by haziness / oiliness is less than 1%, I'd still want to know if either stone is affected.

I have a D color w/ SBF, so I'm a big fan of that combo. :)

I'd bet the F VS2 is eye clean, but I would want to know about the D SI1. I'd ask BN if they can pull the stones for you and have one of their gemologists look at them both. Perhaps they'd even be able to take a picture of them both - some people recently have been able to get them to do that.

Otherwise - is there any way you can order both and return the one you don't want?

BN said that their vaults performed a visual inspection on the diamonds and said they are eye-cleaned and appear normal under sunlight as far as fluorescence is concerned.  They send me one picture for the 1.58ct but it's out of focus so I couldn't tell anything.  I am still waiting for picture of the 1.72ct.

Can someone look at the reference diagram in the GIA reports and tell how bad the inclusions are?  The diagram for the 1.72ct shows feather under key symbols but I don't see that in the diagram.  Can you locate it and see if it might cause fracture?  The twinning wisps on the 1.72ct are long and appear more on the table.  Should that be of concerned? I heard twinning wisps should show up white on the diamond but is that the case for even long twinning wisps?

If cost was the same and the SI was eye clean I would go for size.

I would even go to G color so I could have larger size and VS2. I also would look at vendors who provide photos and idealscope images. That is a LOT of money to just buy blind.

I'd go to G VS2.

If you're intent on those diamonds, ask the gemologist for opinions on critical eye cleanliness and which one looks better.

Definitely need trained eyes on a purchase that big.

Thank you for the feedback. I dropped the 1.72 ct D color SI1 clarity.

I found a couple that are G color but better clarity. I would appreciate you take a look at them and let me know which one is a better buy.

1.58 ct G color VVS2 clarity for $14767

7.42 x 7.46 x 4.61 mm
Table 57%, Depth 62%
Crown Angle 36deg, Crown Depth 15.5%
Pavilion Angle 40.6deg, Pavilion Depth 43%
Strong Blue fluorescence

HCA is 1.8 and AGA is 2A.

Comparing to my original 1.58 ct F VS2, the AGA of this one is scored lower, 2A; it’s about $600 cheaper and it’s much better clarity. I don’t need VVS2 clarity but the stone is already low price because of strong fluorescence. So even if go with lower clarity I can’t find a VS2 stone of this size for this price.

Do you think this one is a better buy than the 1.58 ct VS2? I think based on the measurements I think the original one has better cut than this one but I’m not sure if human eyes can differentiate that.

1.71 ct G color VS2 clarity for $16,469

http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-search?pt=setform&track=NavDiaSeaRD#diamonds_pid=LD04275015

7.68 x 7.72 x 4.72 mm
Table 56%, Depth 61.3%
Crown Angle 33.5deg, Crown Depth 14.5%
Pavilion Angle 40.6deg, Pavilion Depth 43%
Strong Blue fluorescence

HCA 0.9 and AGA is 1A.

This one shows fewer inclusions than the 1.58 ct VS2 but the inclusions are on the table. If it’s eye clean, do you think it is a better buy?
