Ok...I am deciding between these two settings...

one with pear side stones

and one with two marquise side stones (but a plain band)

My center diamond is a square cushion H&A. What do you guys think?

I feel like the one with pears is more classic and the one with marquises is more unique...

also the one with pears might make the stone look too roundish? I know there is a thread with a square cushion H&A and pear side stones...beautiful ring...but the marquises might emphasize the squareness?

Pears!

I vote for pears!

With a square cushion, I would definitely use marquise side stones. I absolutely adore Ms. Harriet''s Tsav Leon ring. If you''re not going to put diamonds down the shank, I''d put one bezelled diamond where the points of the marquises meet, then the plain shank.

I vote for the marquise. I think the way the marquise will point to the corners of your stone will really highlight your center stone.
I really cant see how the pears will accentuate a more squarhish stone. I just dont think they do anything for a square stone.
I havent seen pears with a square stone and could change my mind once I see it though. (I do love the pears with a round).

EDIT - also like gemgirls idea of puttng at least 1 diamond in the shank where the ends of the marquise meet just to keep the
flow.

I totally agree that the marquise pointing toward the corners will accentuate the square shape. I think the pears are lovely, but you intentionally bought a square stone, so show off the shape!

thanks so much for replying! there is an example of a square cushion H&A with pear side stones and it is beautiful but I agree that the marquises might accentuate the squareness...I only have a 1-carat so I''m assuming we can get really small marquises, right? Going to the jeweler tomorrow to talk about setting ideas...

here is the link with the square cushion and the pears...

thanks guys!!!

I have seen the pears with princess and I like that combination but I am thinking now that the squareness gets a bit lost in the square cushion because of the rounded edges...

Also, the ring in the link is LOVELY but I would get smaller pears if I go the pear route.

They are both very different looks, I love both! Go with the one you like best, either will be stunning.

Another vote for the marquise side stones. That is a stunning and unusual ring that you won''t see on everyone else. And, yes, marquise side stones come in small carat weight sizes.

After seeing the ring in the link I am going to strongly urge you to go with the pears!

I think the marquise design will not work with the size diamond you have. Your diamond is a great size, but that ring I think needs at least a 7mm center stone to really work, or an elogated center like the picture shows.

dreamer you can''t reply to other people''s posts and not tell us what you picked :)

the marquise setting. So classy!

I vote for the marquise setting. I think the square-ness will be highlighted better.

The ring in the link looks just like a round with pears.

Another vote for the marquise!

The pear 3 stone that you linked it also very lovely but if I didnt stop to stare at it for a moment I would have almost thought
it was a round stone. So...I guess it depends if you want to accentuate the squareness of your stone or not.

I was thinking the same thing too. If I didn''t know it was a squarish stone, I would have thought it was round. I personally like trillians with square stones in a setting like that.

So my vote is for the other. I really think that is a beautiful setting too!

OK thanks guys! I am getting a wax mockup of the one with the marquise side stones made, and then I can see if the proportions look good with the size center diamond I have.
