Which Radiant Cut Diamond Should I Go With?

Hi Everyone, I'm getting this ring: http://www.sharifjewelers.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/a/f/afn-5062cu.jpg

It's being custom made for a radiant cut center diamond. I'm trying to decide between two diamonds. They are virtually the same price, and both are GIA rankings. Please help me decide which diamond I should get:

Option 1) Color: H
Clarity: VS2
Carat: 1.53
Cut: Excellent
Depth: 69.70
Table: 66.00
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Very Good
Fluorescence: Faint
Measurements: 6.37*6.33*4.42

Option 2) Color: F
Clarity: VS1
Carat: 1.30
Cut: Excellent
Depth: 67.30
Table: 68.00
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 6.26*6.12*4.12

Both are GIA.
I am most concerned with it looking big and very nice. Should I go for an even bigger diamond? Since it has a halo, I imagine either of these will look quite big. What do you all think. My budget is flexible. As a last question, what do you think is a fair price for these? Thank you.

Really impossible to judge a radiant without pics.

Without more info there is no way to tell much about these diamonds other than that despite the weight difference there is not much difference in visible size. Especially with a halo around it the size difference between the two rings will be negligible.

There is, however, no way to judge whether one or the other is prettier without a lot more information. A good picture or video would help though there really is no perfect substitute for seeing the diamond since radiants vary far more than rounds in how they reflect light.

Should I go for a bigger diamond or will this look substantial and definitely big? What do you think? Just for a heads up, I also want the diamond to be square in shape, not rectangular.

Not sure if it's the way the picture was taken but I think the larger stone has better symmetry.

Yes, I also think it seems that way from the picture -- but why does the larger stone appear to be dull/yellow. Is that actually the case, or is it just the photo?

Hi. Okay, to speed this up, tell us what you have been quoted for the above two diamonds.

Then tell us what you have been quoted for the setting.

Then if carat weight is important we can provide links to maximise it for your budget.

However the first and most important thing to say is, to quote gypsy

You cannot buy a fancy from the numbers alone

Even pics would not suffice for me putting that kind of money down on a stone. You ideally want a vendor who will have tools that can assess the light performance of a diamond. ASET. You also want to look at the plot diagram on the GIA or AGSL report - there are many facet diagrams that are classified under 'radiant'.

Because I am not a Radiant person per se, I will link you to what I'd consider the minimum amount to read before buying a cushion. This applies in no lesser degree to radiants. Do a pricescope search for radiant and read all you can.

See the different facet diagrams - this is for cushions but the same principle applies to radiants.

See how important the ASET is:

I am also deeply concerned you are choosing from only two stones. I consider this a vastly insufficient pool.

Finally, I don't know anything about you or your intended's tastes, but if you have a healthy settings budget I would strongly consider Victor Canera for a handforged setting. Search pricescope for examples of his work.

Further into the road of radiants, good old gold do a subvariant called the Jubilee

Here's another gog video comparing some radiants

Have a look through all the links, and let us know your thoughts, and also your budget for the stone and your budget for the setting, and what you have been quoted so far for what you have posted.

entirely possible it's just the photo.

It might just be me, but both stones look like they have a little bit if leakage. The first picture (bigger stone) also seems like it is overexposed or retouched in some way- I get the feeling the lighting or camera shot is off. Did you see the stones in person? Which did you like better?

I did not see them in person, and I have no way to. Both are around 7k USD each.

Radiants are deep and face up small in diameter. Is that the shape stone she wants? A 1 ct round is 6.4-6.5mm in diameter.

Of those two, the 1.5 H is better cut. The smaller one does not appear to be as square, plus it as a huge table and the facet pattern does not look symmetrical to me.

I like the bigger stone better also. Is there anyway to get an aset image to double check on the light return?

Thank you guys for the help. Would the gia certificate help at all? I can post that here too. I'm looking to get an aset image for them. Now, I'm going to post another thread asking advice to find a radiant. I'm looking to get a radiant cut between 1.5 to 2 carats, as square as possible, and big and sparkly and white as possible, haha. Budget is about $8500 but it could be slightly more if necessary. Thank you!

THat one looks good! Can anyone offer their opinion on it? kb1gra, can you tell me what you think about the color, and do you have confidence that it will look good in the setting?

Also, thank you very much for your help!
